The 2025 Rome Diamond League will host some of the most thrilling matches in track, as the compelling 5000m rivalry between Gudaf Tsegay and Beatrice Chebet takes stage once again this year.
Every time Chebet and Tsegay, who holds the current 5000m world record of 14:00.21 meet, the battle is usually hot.
However, Chebet has had an edge over the Ethiopian track queen in the past one year, including in their latest clash in Xiamen Diamond League a few weeks ago.

How Beatrice Chebet and Gudaf Tsegay have performed recently
In Xiamen, the Kenyan ran a tactical race to win the title in a world lead time of 14.27.12 ahead of Tsegay and Birke Haylom.
Tsegay and her fellow Ethiopian countrywoman Haylom clocked 14:28.18 and 14:28.80 respectively in that epic race.
Chebet, a one-time 5000m Olympic Games gold medalist, went on to feature in the 3000m race at the Rabat Diamond League meeting where she once again triumphed, clocking a new African record of 8:11.56 in the process.

Her performance was the second fastest in over 30 years, only second to the current world record of 8:06.11 that was set by China’s Wang Junxia.
Similar to Chebet, Tsegay also emerged victorious in her most recent competitive race at the Boris Hanžeković Memorial in Zagreb where she set a 1500m meeting record of 3:58.14.
Therefore, she is expected to give Chebet a run for her money in Rome where we might witness a new world record.
