- According to Ngetich, the race was very tough especially in the closing stages.
Kenyan runner Agnes Ngetich continued with her winning streak at the 2025 Grand Slam Track in the United States on Sunday morning.
Ngetich, who trains in Iten, ran a tactical race to win the 3000m race and in the process bag the coveted Philadelphia Grand Slam Track title.
Unlike the previous Grand Slam Track series, Ngetich had to plan and execute her race well because the organizers decided to have only one event in the women’s long distance category.

Therefore, failure to win the 3000m race would have been catastrophic to Ngetich since she could not have had a chance to redeem herself in the 5000m race like was the case in Kingston and Miami Grand Slam Track events.
Ngetich ran close with the rest of the field at the start of the race before overpowering them near the finishing line.

She clocked a time of 8:43.61 to finish ahead of Ethiopia’s Ejgayehu Taye and Josette Andrews, who hails from the United States.

Taye and Andrews crossed the finishing line in 8:43.70 and 8:44.70 in that order with the former’s compatriots Medina Eisa and Tsigie Gebreselama finishing sixth and eighth respectively.
In an interview shortly after finishing the race, Ngetich acknowledged that the race was very competitive.
“I think today was fast, everyone was strong. It was just one race, so the field was very strong, especially from the last three laps,” she commented.

The 10km road race world record holder was awarded $50,000 (approximately Ksh 6,460,000 as per the current exchange rate) for her brilliant display.
In another race, Mary Moraa finished seventh in the 1500m race which was won by Ethiopia’s Diribe Welteji. However, Moraa still has a chance to bounce back on Sunday in her favorite 800m discipline.
As for Ngetich, she will turn her attention to the final Grand Slam Track of the year that is scheduled to be held in Los Angeles between June 27 and June 19.
