- Gor Mahia edged Murang’a SEAL in a dramatic FKF Cup semifinal on Sunday, May 25, winning 5–4 on penalties after a 2–2 draw at Dandora Stadium.
- Interim coach Zedekiah Otieno remains confident the club is on track for a domestic double this season.
- Gor will face either Nairobi United or Mara Sugar in the final and must win their remaining three league matches while hoping Police drop points in their last two games.
Gor Mahia’s interim coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno has expressed optimism about the club’s pursuit of a domestic double this season following their hard-fought qualification for the 2024/25 FKF Cup final.
Over the weekend, Zico guided Gor Mahia in his first match since taking over from head coach Sinisa Mihic.
Under his stewardship, Gor Mahia triumphed over Murang’a SEAL in a tense semifinal clash. The match ended 2-2 in regular time, with Gor emerging 5-3 victors in the penalty shootout.
Reflecting on the encounter, Zico acknowledged the difficulty of the game, noting that they had anticipated a tough battle, especially given the stakes of a semifinal.
He praised his players for their resilience and mental fortitude, particularly considering the teams had faced each other just a week prior in a goalless FKF Premier League fixture.
I think this was a tough match. You always expect that when you play a semifinal. So I thank the players, they really showed a lot of character especially after coming from behind, getting a winning goal, and then conceding an equalizer. I think they showed really strong character,” he stated after the match.

He admitted that conceding a goal from a throw-in was a lapse at this level but emphasized that the team had a clear strategy, and overall, he was pleased with their execution.
But all in all, we were ready for any eventuality. We had a plan and were going to execute it, except that conceding a goal from a throw-in at this level is something that should not happen. But going forward, I think we have a good team and we know what to do in the next round.”
Gor Mahia on course for double
The former Kenya international noted that in the final whether against Nairobi United or Mara Sugar will be challenging, but stressed that Gor Mahia are fully committed to their ambition of clinching both the league and FKF Cup titles.
What is important is to maintain strong character. We know it’s either Mara or Nairobi United—it will be a tough game. We are ready, and I think from the beginning we were planning to take two cups. So far, we are on course; there is nothing to worry about,” he added.

Zico concluded by highlighting the importance of consistency in their final league fixtures.
“Nothing else- we just have to win our three remaining matches and wait to see what happens. For us, the focus is on winning all three games.”
Gor Mahia’s final fixtures include a high-stakes Mashemeji Derby against AFC Leopards on June 2nd in Homa Bay, followed by clashes with Ulinzi Stars and Kenya Police to conclude their Premier League campaign.
