Kenyan runner Reynold Cheruiyot produced a sensational kick to win the 5000m title at the 2025 Doha Diamond League.
Cheruiyot ran a tactical race before unleashing a powerful kick that saw him cross the finishing line in 13.16.40.
Cheruiyot was followed by Switzerland’s Dominic Lobalu and Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew, who stopped the clock at 13.17.70 and 13.17.70 in that order.
Meanwhile, Edwin Kurgat (13:19.32) and Cornelius Kemboi (13:20.43), who were the other Kenyan participants in that race registered fifth and sixth positions respectively.

In another race, Kenya’s Wyclife Kinyamal finished third in the 800m behind Botswana’s Tshepiso Masalela and United States’ representative Bryce Hoppel.
Elsewhere, Jamaican athletes led by Tia Clayton and Tina Clayton shone in the women’s 100m discipline.
Tia crossed the finishing line in a world lead time of 10.92 seconds with Tina and Great Britain’s Amy Hunt clocking 11.02 and 11.03 to settle for the second and third positions respectively.
The fourth position went to track icon Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who finished in an time of 11.05.
Speaking after the race, the multiple Olympic Games champion stated that she will go back home and prepare for the upcoming events.
“I just look forward to going back and building and coming back for the next one,” Fraser-Pryce commented.
Lastly, it is not yet clear where the fast-rising Cheruiyot will race next after his heroics at the 2025 Doha Diamond League.
