Steeplechase queens Faith Cherotich, Winfred Yavi and Peruth Chemutai are set to face off for the first time this year at the 2025 Doha Diamond League on Friday, May 16.
Cherotich will seek to continue from where she left off in the memorable 2024 season that saw her bag the Diamond League trophy in the final in Brussels, Belgium.
The Kenyan athlete, who had a very slim chance of beating the pre-race favorite Yavi, produced a killer kicker in the closing stages of the colorful that Diamond League event to cross the finishing line in 9:02.36.
Yavi, who switched her allegiance to Bahrain several years ago, clocked 9:02.87 to finish second with her Ugandan rival Chemutai settling for third in 9:07.60.
Since then, these three superstars have not locked horns, making the 3000m steeplechase Doha Diamond League final a crunch one.

Faith Cherotich speaks ahead of the 2025 Doha Diamond League
Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated showdown, Cherotich expressed confidence in registering an excellent performance.
“My training session has been good and I’m looking forward to a beautiful race on Friday despite the stiff competition.
My target is to finish the race on the podium, and being that it is my first international race this year, I will be using it to gauge my fitness,” she was quoted by Daily Nation.
The 20-year-old runner added that she will use the Doha Diamond League to gauge her preparations for the 2025 Tokyo World Athletics Championships that will be held in September.
“I want to make it better this season and the race on Friday will help me work on a few areas ahead of the World Athletics Championships,” explained Cherotich.

Besides the trio, the other women who have been confirmed for the 3000m steeplechase at the Doha Diamond League are Sembo Almayew (Ethiopia), Parul Chaudhary (India), Valerie Constien (USA), Cara Feain-Ryan (Great Britain) and Marwa Bouzayani (Tunisia).
Germany’s Olivia Gurth, Morocco’s Ikram Ouaaziz, Romania’s Stella Rutto and the Kenyan-born Kazakhstani duo of Norah Jeruto and Daisy Jepkemei will also be in contention.
