Olympic Games medalists Faith Cherotich and Winfred Yavi are some of the runners who will feature in the 2025 Doha Diamond League on Friday, May 16.
This will be the first meeting of the season between Cherotich and Yavi, who was born in Kenya but competes in the Bahraini colors.
Cherotich will be seeking to start her campaign on a high ahead of the upcoming World Athletics Championships that will be held in Tokyo, Japan later this year.

The highly rated runner recently divulged that she wants to bring the coveted gold medal that Kenyan last won in 2019 home.
“When I competed in 2023, I was still a student in form four, and I didn’t have enough time to prepare for the global event.
But this year, I have all the time to arm myself properly because it’s not easy and I am targeting to bring the gold medal home,” Cherotich told Nation Sport.
According to the athlete who has switched her training base to Kaptagat, the Doha Diamond League will help her gauge her performance.
Cherotich is expected to face a difficult task against the likes of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games gold medalist Yavi and Ugandan star Peruth Chemutai. Chemutai and Yavi have more experience compared to the Kenyan.
Other Kenyan athletes in 2025 Doha Diamond League
Besides Cherotich, several other Kenyan runners including 1500m specialist Nelly Chepchirchir will be in action at the Doha Diamond League.
Others include Julius Yego (Javelin), Wyclife Kinyamal (800m), Susan Ejore (1500m), Aaron Cheminingwa (800m), Tereshia Gathoni Gatheri (1500m) and Laban Kipkorir Chepkwony (800m).
Cornelius Kemboi, Boaz Kiprugut, Edwin Kurgat and Reynold Cheruiyot are also expected to light up the 5000m discipline.
Finally, apart from the Kenyans, a number of world beaters such as Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo and Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will also be in contention.
Fraser-Pryce returns
With 25 victories and five series titles, Jamaican sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is one of the most successful athletes in Diamond League history.
In Doha, the 38-year-old superstar will be hoping to add to that tally when she lines up in the 100m against the likes of Mujinga Kambundji and compatriots Natasha Morrison and Tia and Tina Clayton.
Victory would be her first in the Diamond League since 2022, and would be a potential first step towards a record-equalling sixth Diamond Trophy in 2025. She knows how to do it, having won in Doha twice before in 2014 and 2021.
Tebogo takes on the 200m
Having become the first African ever to win gold in the men’s 200m at the Olympic Games in Paris last season, Botswana sprint star Letsile Tebogo announced he would switch his focus to the 100m in 2025.
After openng his Diamond League campaign with 100m appearances in Xiamen and Keqiao, however, Tebogo will be back on familiar territory when he takes on his first 200m of the campaign in Doha.
Canada’s Aaron Brown and Liberia’s Joseph Fahnbulleh will provide tough competition, but the Olympic champion remains firm favourite as he eyes a first Diamond League win of the season.
