Hellen Obiri seeking to match Fatuma Roba’s Boston Marathon legacy
The last female runner to achieve that feat was Ethiopia’s Fatuma Roba, who did so between 1997 and 1999.
Roba triumphed for the first time in the demanding Boston Marathon course in 1997 when she crossed the finishing line in 2:26.23.
She went on to clinch her second title in 1998 (2:23.21) before making it three victories in a row the following year in a time of 2:23.25.
Meanwhile, Obiri, who ditched track for road a few years ago, has already secured two Boston Marathon titles and she is one of the favorites to shine in the 2025 edition.

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games bronze medalist heads to Boston with a personal best time of 2:21.38 that she set at the same event two years ago.
