Several Kenyan runners including Olympic Games bronze medalist Hellen Obiri will compete in the 2025 Boston Marathon on Monday, April 21.
Obiri, who switched from track to road races a few years ago, is one of the main contenders in the women’s category at the 2025 Boston Marathon.

The 35-year-old will be looking to clinch the 2025 Boston Marathon title and become the first Kenya woman to win three consecutive titles in the history of the race.
Obiri bagged her first Boston Marathon title in 2023 before going on to defend it last year. At the 2024 edition of the race, the talented athlete clocked 2:22.37 to finish ahead of her compatriots Sharon Lokedi and Edna Kiplagat.
Hellen Obiri speaks ahead of 2025 Boston Marathon
Speaking ahead of Monday’s showdown, Obiri stated that she is ready to battle it out against some of the best runners in the world.
“My mindset is to try my best to win and create history. Boston is always a very strong race, but I am confident in my preparation.
I will run my race and wait for the good moment to make a move,” explained Obiri in a recent interview.

Strong Kenyan contingent heading to 2025 Boston Marathon
Apart from Obiri, some of the other Kenyan women that have been confirmed for the 2025 Boston Marathon are Irine Cheptai, Sharon Cherop, Kiplagat and Lokedi.
These athletes will face stiff competition particularly from their Ethiopian rivals that include Amane Beriso, who has the fastest lifetime best of 2:14.58 among the competitors, Buze Diriba and former half marathon world record holder Yalemzerf Yehualaw.
Meanwhile, John Korir, who won the 2024 Chicago Marathon, will fight for the mouthwatering prize money in the men’s category with the likes of Evans Chebet, Sisay Lemma and Cybrian Kotut.

Huge prize money on offer at 2025 Boston Marathon
According to the Boston Athletic Association website, the winner in each category will be awarded a prize money of $150,000 (approximately Ksh 19, 429,055 as per the current exchange rate).
On the other hand, the second and third place finishers will each pocket $75,000 (approximately Ksh 9,714, 527 and $40,000 (approximately Ksh 5,184,000) in that order.
With the huge prize money that will be on offer in the 2025 Boston Marathon, athletics fans are expected to witness fireworks in every category.
