  • President William Ruto has revealed that his son is studying a sports related course with the aim of improving Kenyan football.
  • Ruto made the revelation during the flagging off ceremony of the Rising Stars, who are set to feature in the 2025 AFCON U20 tournament.
  • The President also made clear his intention of improving sporting facilities in the country.

President William Ruto disclosed on Tuesday morning, April 15, 2025 that his younger son is pursuing a Master’s degree in Sports Management so that he can help take the national football team, Harambee Stars, to another level.

Ruto, who spoke during a colorful flagging off ceremony of the Rising Stars that was staged at State House, Nairobi, stated that the dream of his son George Kimutai Ruto is to see Kenyan football grow.

According to Ruto, his kid has always urged him to come up with initiatives that can enhance the football industry in the country.

“I want to tell you my own son is a great fan of football, and he keeps telling me that we have to do something. And so that I know how serious he is, he has gone to do a Master’s in Sports Management because he wants to come and support you.

This is because the young people of Kenya see potential and opportunity, and especially all sports including football,” he explained.

The head of state further made a commitment to improve sporting infrastructures especially Stadiums across Kenya.

According to President Ruto, he is on a mission to fulfil the promises that he earlier made to the citizens of this country.  

“It is time we elevate football to where it should be, and we are building Talanta Stadium here in Jamhuri, 40 years after Kasarani was built, and we are not just doing what we are doing in Talanta, but we are also refurbishing Kasarani, we are by putting a canopy. You know, we want to raise the standards.

We will do the same in Nyayo Stadium. We are doing something in Bukhungu in Kakamega. We are doing something in Eldoret at the Kipchoge Stadium and many other stadiums across Kenya,” he commented.

President Ruto ended by urging Rising Stars to carry the country’s flag higher in the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) U20 tournament that is scheduled to be held in Egypt between April 27 and May 18.

Rising Stars will square it out with West African powerhouse Nigeria, Morocco and Tunisia in the highly anticipated showpiece.

Finally, President Ruto wished the Rising Stars all the best and promised to travel to Morocco and support them should they make it to the final.
