- AFCON 2027 will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
President William Ruto made a commitment on Monday, September 16 that the country will be ready to co-host the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Kenya won the bid to stage the prestigious football tournament alongside East African neighbors Uganda and Tanzania in September 2023.
The joint bid was picked by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) executive committee during a meeting held in Cairo, Egypt at the expense of others from nations such as Egypt, Senegal and Botswana.
One year later, Tanzania and Uganda have made tremendous steps to improve their infrastructure in readiness for the continental showpiece.

Meanwhile, Kenya is currently in the process of improving the status of its two stadiums and constructing a new one.
Speaking after a meeting with CAF President Patrice Motsepe in State House, Nairobi, Ruto gave the timelines by which the three facilities will be ready for use.
“Kenya will be ready to co-host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in 2027. The preparations of our three stadia – renovation of Kasarani and Nyayo and construction of the brand new Talanta Sports City Stadium – are progressing well.
We commit that Kasarani and Nyayo will be ready by the end of this year for African Nations Championships 2025, while Talanta Sports City will be completed by December 2025 for AFCON 2027,” read part of his statement.

The meeting came a day after Motsepe had toured the facilities which are all domiciled in Kenya’s capital city.
The South African was accompanied by Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa.
According to Murkomen, Motsepe was happy with the progress that country has made so far.
“Had the pleasure of pleasure of taking CAF President Patrice Motsepe on a tour of Moi International Sports Complex, Nyayo Stadium, and the upcoming Talanta Sports City Stadium in Nairobi.
He was impressed by our progress and expressed confidence that, alongside Uganda and Tanzania, we will deliver successful tournaments,” he explained.
