Shabana FC’s run in the 2025 FKF Cup came to a painful and contentious end on Sunday evening after they were bundled out by Kakamega Homeboyz.

Shabana, who entered this FKF Cup round of 16 tie in an excellent form that saw them pick up four wins and a draw in all competitions, were beaten 1-0 in the clash that took place at Kisumu’s Moi Stadium.

Kakamega Homeboyz scored their goal in the 18th minute via Moses Mudavadi to book themselves a ticket to the next round of the FKF Cup.

The goal came after Shabana’s defenders went to sleep and allowed Mudavadi to tap the ball into the net from close range.

After going behind, Shabana, who hammered Kakamega Homeboyz 4-1 in a recent FKF Premier League, searched for an equalizer but luck was not on their side.

Their best goal scoring chance of the first half came in the half hour mark when Derick Oketch narrowly missed the target.

As the game went on, Shabana enjoyed more possession and had several goal scoring chances that they failed to utilize them, forcing the first half to end 1-0 in favor of Kakamega Homeboyz.

The Kisii based side returned from the break with hunger a for a goal with Oketch, Austine Odongo and Darius Msagha coming close to finding the back of the net.

In an effort to make his attacker sharper, Shabana head coach Peter Okidi introduced Kevin Omundi and Mark Oduor in place of Elvis Osok and Keith “the magician” Imbali in the 67th minute.

However, although Oduor nearly set up Oketch for the equalizer, the two substitutions did not brought the expected change in the game.

Therefore, Okidi, who has done a wonderful job since landing the Shabana FC coaching job, made another two substitutions.

This time round, he took off Oketch and Msagha and replaced them with Daglas Mokaya and Dennis Okoth.

Nevertheless, despite a hard fight from Shabana, which saw them score a goal deep into the extra time that was ruled out for a controversial foul, their FKF Cup dream ended in tears.

Murang’a Seal demolish FKF Cup opponents Kibera Soccer

In other FKF Cup matches that were played on Sunday, Ulinzi Stars secured a 2-0 victory over Bidco United while SportPesa sponsored side Murang’a Seal hammered Kibera Soccer 5-1.

Murang’a Seal scored their goals via Lucas Maina, Victor Haki (brace), Titus Kapchanga and Wilson Kamau while Elvis Vida was on the score sheet for Kibera Soccer.

Besides Murang’a Seal, Kakamega Homeboyz and Ulinzi Stars, some of the other clubs that have qualified for the 2025 FKF Cup quarterfinals include Gor Mahia FC, Kariobangi Sharks and Nairobi United.
