The Kenya national women’s sevens rugby team, Lionesses, secured a 12-0 win over Belgium in their first match of the final leg of the 2025 World Rugby HSBC Sevens Challenger Series in Krakow, Poland on Friday afternoon.
Kenya Lionesses got the first try just before halftime via Sinaida Mokaya, who turned a Belgium defender inside out, before placing the ball down between the posts.

The resultant conversion was successful, ensuring the mighty Lionesses went to the break with a 7-0 lead over their opponents.

At the start of the second half, Belgium tried to their best to break down Kenya’s defence but the Lionesses did not made it easier for them.
The European side could have scored their first try with about three minutes remaining to the end of second half, but substitute Freshia Odour made a brilliant tackle to save the Lionesses.

The Lionesses, who are well coached by Dennis Mwanja, increased their lead to 12-0 thanks to Mokaya in the final moments of the hotly contested tie.
The talented squad received a huge applause from the Kenyan fans at the final whistle for their awesome show.
After the hard-fought victory, the Kenyans will now shift their focus to the next Pool A match against Thailand that is expected to start from 3:20 pm EAT at the Henryk Reyman’s Municipal Stadium.
The Lionesses, who won the titles in the first and second leg of the World Rugby HSBC Challenger Series that were held in Cape Town, will then ended the pool matches with an encounter against Colombia from 6:28 pm EAT.
Kenya Lionesses already confirmed ticket for HSBC SVNS promotion/relegation play-off
Meanwhile, Kenya Lionesses have booked a place in the top four teams that will take part the 2025 HSBC SVNS promotion/relegation play-off scheduled to take place in Los Angeles between May 2 and May 4.

Apart from the impeccable Lionesses, their men’s counterpart Shujaa will also compete in the HSBC SVNS play-off after being relegated from the World Rugby HSBC Sevens Series.
