Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia have sacked Brazilian head coach Leo Neiva just four months into his appointment.
Neiva, who took over at the club in July 2024, has only overseen a total of 13 matches at K’Ogalo with three coming in the 2024 CECAFA Club competition (D1 L2), four in the 24/25 CAF Champions League Preliminary Rounds (W1 L3) and six in the 24/25 Football Kenya Federation Premier League campaign (W2 D2 L2).
The Brazilian’s sacking comes on the back of an unusual four-match winless run in the league that culminated with Neiva’s sacking.

“Gor Mahia Football Club today announces the termination of the contract of Head Coach Mr. Leo Neiva. This decision was made after the club’s management invoked a contractual clause, leading to the end of the coach’s tenure effective immediately.
The club extends its gratitude to Mr. Neiva for his commitment, hard work, and contributions to Gor Mahia during his time with the team.
However, following a thorough evaluation and in the interest of aligning with the club’s long-term vision, the management has determined that a change in leadership is necessary,” Gor posted in an official communique on their social media channels.
Neiva’s tenure at the club was punctuated by ugly scenes that saw the Brazilian assaulted by fans following their 2-2 draw against Murang’a Seal in what was now his second last match in charge.
In that game, Neiva had to be rescued from the wrath of the fans by General Service Unit (GSU) officers after Gor let slip a two-goal advantage as Murang’a forced a 2-2 draw.
K’Ogalo, who currently sit in an unfamiliar 12th position on 8 points, nine behind leaders KCB who have played two more games than them, announced that the process of searching for a new coach would follow after Neiva’s dismissal.
In the interim, assistant coaches Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and Michael Nam will take charge of the club during that process.

The club will begin the search for a new head coach who embodies the values and aspirations of Gor Mahia Football Club and who will bring renewed energy and strategic insight to the team.
In the interim, Zedekiah OTIENO and Michael NAM will oversee the team’s preparations and match responsibilities as the recruitment process for a new head coach progresses.
We appreciate the continued support of our fans, sponsors, and partners during this transition. Gor Mahia Football Club is fully committed to delivering a successful season and will keep supporters updated as new developments unfold,” Gor Mahia posted.
