Shabana FC and Tusker FC players in action at Gusii stadium in the first leg match

The midweek Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League match between Tusker FC and Shabana FC, initially scheduled to take place on Thursday, February 20, at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos has been rescheduled to Wednesday, February 26 at the same venue.

“Our match against Shabana FC which was to be played this Thursday in Machakos has been moved to next Wednesday, February 26 at the same venue,” read a statement from Tusker FC’s social media.

“We regret to inform you that the much-anticipated FKF PL match – Tusker Fc vs Shabana Fc, earlier scheduled to be played on Thursday, 20th February 2025, 1PM EAT at Machakos Stadium, has been postponed to Wednesday 26th February 2025. Apologies for any inconvenience caused,” Shabana noted on their part.

While the two clubs have not disclosed the reason for the postponement, SportPesa Blog understands the likely cause could be the congestion at the stadium and security concerns.

This is due to another highly anticipated match between Kenya’s record champions Gor Mahia who will take on Bidco United on the same day at 4PM.

The intensity surrounding the Gor Mahia and Shabana fanbases, both of which are among the most passionate in the league, influenced the decision to call off the original match.

With the rescheduling, Tusker FC will now focus on preparing for the FKF Cup 2025 this weekend, where they will travel to Kisii to face Division II side Gucha Youth, while Shabana will visit Solian FC in Baringo County.

Both teams were looking to secure three crucial points following recent setbacks.

Charles Okere’s Tusker is currently in second place having dropped points in a goalless draw with Gor Mahia at Kenyatta Stadium last weekend.

The team is now winless in three consecutive matches, all of which ended in draws, leaving them two points behind Police FC who have accumulated 41 points thus far.

Shabana’s recent form

On the other hand, Peter Okidi’s Shabana FC is also without a win in their last three matches.

On Sunday, they were held to a 0-0 draw by Mathare United at Gusii Stadium, following a 1-2 loss to Posta Rangers and a goalless draw with Kariobangi Sharks. As a result, Shabana currently sits in eighth place on the standings with 29 points.

As both teams prepare for their FKF Cup fixtures, they will look at these matches as vital preparations for their rescheduled meeting on Wednesday, February 26.
