Gor Mahia

The highly anticipated football clash that was to pit record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia against Tanzanian giants Young Africans, popularly known as Yanga, will not take place at the newly constructed Siaya Stadium on Saturday 22 February as initially planned, SportPesa Blog can confirm.

The game had been pushed forward to February having failed to take place on 2 January 2025 during the official opening of the Siaya Stadium.

During that time, Yanga was engaged with 24/25 CAF Champions League assignments and could not honor the clash that was graced by Uganda’s Kitara FC who succumbed to a 9-8 defeat on post-match penalties following a 0-0 draw.

Speaking to SportPesa Blog, Gor Mahia team manager Victor Nyaoro confirmed that the match that was scheduled for Saturday will be impossible to take place as Gor have a cup game on Sunday against KSG Ogopa in the Round of 64.

“The game against Yanga will not take place because of the clash in scheduling. We have a cup game on Sunday which we will be playing,” Nyaoro told SportPesa Blog.

Gor Mahia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Raymond Oruo also confirmed the game will not take place this weekend and revealed the reason behind the decision.

“The game is off. It is practically impossible to have the match at this time, so I can confirm it is canceled. We had initially planned to host the game during the CHAN break when both leagues were paused, but with the tournament’s postponement and the resumption of the Kenyan and Tanzanian leagues, it’s not feasible.

Yanga have a game on the 23rd, and we also have a Cup match this weekend, making the game impossible to schedule,” Oruo said.
