Tusker FC head coach Charles Okere

Tusker FC head coach Charles Okere has said it is too early to judge the Football Kenya Federation title race despite their current good form.

Tusker climbed to the top of the table after beating reigning champions Gor Mahia 2-1 on Sunday evening at the Kenyatta Stadium.

Out of the 17 matches they have played so far, the Brewers have managed to collect 33 points. Okere’s side has been defeated four times, secured 10 wins, and been held to three draws.

Okere, who is in his first seasoon as a substantive head coach after taking over from Robert Matano at the start of the season, said that despite their current position, it is not the right time to discuss the title race as the season is far from over.

“It is too early to talk about the title race. Yes, we lead the table, but we are just halfway through. Our main focus is on preparing for the next game and taking each match one at a time,” Okere said according to Citizen Digital.

He also praised the players for adapting to the playing formation and improving their performances.

“I’m proud of the shift my boys have put in so far. We kicked off the league on a wrong footing, but we’ve slowly gained momentum.” added Okere “The new boys have already mastered our playing style, and that’s an advantage to me,”

Despite the wins in the race for their 13th top-flight title, Okere stated that there is still a lot of work to be done, particularly in their defense, where they have been conceding goals.

“We still have to work on our defense because we have been conceding too many goals. It is a collective responsibility; you can’t concede a lot and expect to win the title,” Okere said.

Additionally, Okere praised the current Premier League top scorer, Ryan Ogam, who scored a brace in their win against K’Ogalo.

“In life, if you pray, you will get what you want. His faith has given him those goals, and I am sure he will continue to be blessed,” Okere said.

The Brewers will face Gor Mahia in the second leg after playing their two fixtures against in-form Ulinzi Stars over the weekend, and they will face Police FC on February 1st.
