Clinton Kinanga was the hero for Kenya Police FC as his crucial goal secured a 0-1 victory over Murang’a SEAL at the  SportPesa Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The win lifted Police to second place on the standings and extended their unbeaten run to eight matches under head coach Etienne Ndayiragije.

On the other hand, John Njogu’s dream of going five matches unbeaten was broken as they dropped to 12th place on the log with 22 points after 17 matches.

Police, having played 16 matches, have claimed 30 points.

Now, Police FC will prepare to host Bandari in a midweek fixture on Wednesday, January 22, while Murang’a SEAL will seek to rebound against AFC Leopards next Saturday as the visitors.

Elsewhere, Sofapaka continued their good form, thrashing Posta Rangers 2-1 in a highly contested match at the Dandora Stadium.

The match remained a cagey affair in the first ten minutes, but in the 11th minute, Edwaard Odimo broke the deadlock for Sofapaka as they took the lead.

Prior to the goal, Mosha Benjamin had hit the post, which could have given them an early lead. However, Mosha tried another powerful shot in the 27th minute but it went wide.

Batoto Ba Mungu continued to press for a second goal and two minutes later, Jack Ongaya capitalized on a brilliant assist from Victor Okello to double the hosts’ lead.

Posta Rangers made two attempts before the first half, but neither got past Sofapaka’s goalkeeper as Ezekiel Akwana’s side held onto the lead.

The second half mirrored the first, with Derick Mwanzi attempting a shot in the 51st minute, but his shot hit the post and Posta Rangers’ defenders cleared.

In the 66th minute, Posta Rangers were awarded a penalty after a clear handball by John Onyango. Dinken Mwema stepped up and capitalized, reducing the deficit for the mailmen.

The second half saw fewer attempts as Sammy Omollo ‘Pamzo’ received his first defeat as head coach, just five days after his unveiling.

The win means Sofapaka moves to fifth place on the log with 24 points, while Posta Rangers remain in last place in the 18-team Football Kenya Federation League.
