Several professional footballers with Kenyan roots featured for their clubs in different corners of the world.

Some of them helped their clubs to register important victories while others were on the losing ends. Here is a brief wrap of how they performed over the weekend. 

Super sub Nekesa continues scoring spree

Harambee Starlets mercurial forward Marjolen Nekesa needed just 12 minutes to find the back of the net for Czech Republic giants Slava Praha on Sunday September 8.

Nekesa made a cameo in the closing stages of the second half to help her club pick up a huge 4-0 win over FC Praha in a Liga Women match.

The Butere Girls High School product scored in the 87th minute after coming on in the 75th minute of that match played at the Areál Aritmy Sports Avenue.

Nekesa, who has won a couple of golden boot awards in recent years, has now scored three goals in four matches this season.

The victory helped Slava Praha maintain their perfect start in the competitive league, bringing their tally to 12 points from four matches. 

Linton Maina awarded in Germany

Elsewhere, Linton Maina, who is eligible to play for the Kenyan men’s senior team, secured a prestigious award in Germany.

Maina received FC Koln’s Player of the Month award for August following his outstanding displays that saw him score three goals in five matches.

“Congratulations on the award, Linton! You deserve it!” read part of the congratulatory message posted on the club’s website.

The 25-year-old’s best performance of the 2024/2025 season came on August 18, where he scored and provided an assist to help his club beat SV Sandhausen 3-2.

Heartbreak for Henry Meja in Sweden

Finally, Harambee Stars forward Henry Atola Meja was on the receiving end in the Swedish third-tier league. 

Meja failed to rescue his employer AFC Eskilstuna from a 2-0 defeat in the hands of United IK Nordic in a match played on Saturday. 

The 22-year-old was replaced by Yassin Alexander Hawat, with 12 minutes remaining to the end of the match.

The visitors scored their goals through highly-rated forward Antonio Yakoub, with both goals coming in the second half.
