Kabeberi 7s

The reigning SportPesa 7s Circuit champions KCB RFC put a proper statement of intent in their opening match at the 2024 Kabeberi 7s as they thrashed MKU Thika 39-0 to get the perfect start in the fourth outing of the six-legged circuit.

Having not won in any of the opening three outings at Christie 7s, Kakamega 7s and Dala 7s, the bankers looked like a team on a mission as they showed their class against an MKU Thika side that was only promoted to the top division courtesy of winning the Division 2 Dala 7s tournament held in Kisumu last weekend.

Coming into the Kabeberi 7s tournament, KCB bolstered their ranks with Shujaa co-captain Vincent Onyala included in his first tournament in the 2024 SportPesa 7s Circuit following his exploit with the national team at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The Dennis Mwanja-coached side also included former Menengai Oilers duo of Tyson Maina and Davis Nyaundi in their squad for the first time as well as the speedy Floyd Wabwire snapped up from varsity side Daystar Falcons.

Elsewhere, Kabras Sugar, who currently top the 2024 standings, was stunned as they succumbed to a 17-22 defeat against Strathmore Leos in their opening match.

The sugarmen came into the game flying in confidence after their win in the Dala 7s tournament saw them dethrone Quins from the top of the table.
