FKF expels vice president McDonald Mariga and six other NEC members

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has expelled vice president McDonald Mariga alongside six other National Executive Committee (NEC) members following a Special General Meeting (SGM) held on Saturday, 7 November, at Meru’s Steer Hotel.

The officials who were ousted include Central NEC Member Robert Kenneth Macharia, Upper Rift Valley NEC Member Bernard Korir Lagat, FKF Women’s Representative Violet Kerubo Momanyi, Nyanza NEC Member Collins Opiyo Kalee, Coast NEC Member Gabriel Mghendi and Nairobi NEC Member Daniel Akala Shikanda.

All seven were expelled over alleged violations of the FKF Constitution.

“The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) General Assembly, the federation’s supreme decision-making organ, has unanimously resolved to dismiss seven members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) following deliberations at the Special General Meeting (SGM) held in Meru on Saturday, 7 November 2026.

“The resolution follows consideration of allegations of serious and repeated violations of the FKF Constitution and applicable FIFA regulations relating to the conduct of the seven officials and their actions within the federation,” an FKF communique released shortly after the meeting stated.

The voting results showed that Mariga, Shikanda, Mghendi and Macharia were each expelled after securing 65 votes in favour of their removal, against one vote opposing the motion, reportedly cast by AFC Leopards chairperson Boniface Ambani.

Kerubo, Kalee and Lagat each received 64 votes in favour of their expulsion, with two delegates voting against the motion in each case.

The matters considered included the purported NEC resolution of 24 April 2026 seeking the removal of the FKF president and other federation officials, repeated failure to attend duly convened NEC meetings, unauthorised communication on behalf of the federation, and actions deemed contrary to the FKF Constitution and applicable football regulations.

The Congress further resolved that the seven officials remain subject to any additional sanctions that may be imposed by the judicial bodies of FKF, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA, in accordance with the applicable statutes and regulations.

The proceedings were attended by representatives of FIFA, CAF and the government, including B. Comicholi, FIFA Senior Manager for Governance Services; David Ndayisenga, Lead at the FIFA Regional Office; and Nnaemeka Olu, CAF Legal Manager.
