SportPesa League Round 3 Talking Points: Gor Mahia extend unbeaten run as AFC Leopards drop early home points

  • Gor Mahia perfect: Three wins from three, nine points at the top.
  • Shabana’s defensive wall: Three matches, three clean sheets, zero goals conceded.
  • Nine unbeaten: Half of the 18-team league remain unbeaten after Gameweek 3.

Round 3 of the 2026/27 SportPesa League further sharpened the early-season picture, with Gor Mahia establishing themselves as the only side with a perfect record while half of the 18-team league remains unbeaten.

Gor maintained their flawless start with a narrow 1-0 victory over Bandari at the Nyayo National Stadium, taking their tally to nine points from three matches.

Alpha Onyango’s decisive goal continued his remarkable start to the campaign and kept the defending champions at the summit.

The result also underlined K’Ogalo’s early consistency. They have won all three of their matches, having previously defeated Murang’a SEAL and APS Bomet, and are the only team yet to drop a point.

Elsewhere Shabana have matched Gor Mahia’s unbeaten start from a defensive perspective, although they have collected five points rather than nine.

The Glamour Boys played out a goalless draw with AFC Leopards, recording their third consecutive clean sheet of the campaign. They have now gone through their opening three fixtures without conceding a goal.

SportPesa League Round 3 Talking Points

Alpha Onyango has emerged as one of the defining individual stories of the opening three rounds. The Gor Mahia midfielder has scored in every Gameweek, taking his tally to three goals in three matches.

He remains the only player to have found the net in each of the opening three rounds. His latest goal, against Bandari, was enough to give Gor Mahia another three points and maintain their perfect record.

3K FC secured their first ever SportPesa League victory with a 2-1 win over MSEAL in the Mlima Derby at Moi Stadium, Embu.

Glen Kariuki opened the scoring before Oscar Juma doubled the advantage, while Michael Owen pulled one back for Murang’a SEAL in first-half stoppage time.

The result moved 3K FC to five points from their opening three matches after earlier draws against Mara Sugar and Bandari. The newly promoted side therefore remains unbeaten in its first three top-flight appearances.

Nine of the 18 teams have avoided defeat after the opening three Gameweeks: Gor Mahia, Tusker, 3K FC, Mara Sugar, AFC Leopards, Shabana, Nairobi United, Kakamega Homeboyz and Migori Youth.

The figure is particularly notable because it means exactly half of the league has yet to taste defeat. Tusker and Migori Youth, however, have played fewer than three matches because of the fixture schedule, meaning the unbeaten record is not identical in terms of games played.

Nairobi United remain the league’s draw specialists after another stalemate in Gameweek 3. They drew 1-1 with APS Bomet, with Rodgers Kipkemoi putting Bomet ahead before John Avire produced a 94th-minute equaliser.

It was Nairobi United’s third consecutive draw of the campaign, leaving them unbeaten but still searching for their first victory.

After three rounds, the defending champions have created the clearest early separation at the top.Gor Mahia sit on nine points, four clear of the five-point group comprising 3K FC, Mara Sugar, AFC Leopards and Shabana.

Action resumes almost immediately, with the SportPesa League moving into a midweek round as Gameweek 4 gets underway on Wednesday before continuing on Thursday.
