Kenya 7s storm into Africa Men’s 7s final after stunning South Africa

Kenya 7s

The second-string Kenya men’s 7s side, Morans, are back in the Africa Men’s 7s final after stunning top rivals South Africa 15-0 in the 2026 Mauritius 7s semifinal on Sunday morning at the SPARC International Rugby Stadium in Cascavelle.

This was a staggering result for the Kevin Wambua charges, who finished second in Group B on Saturday after recording two wins over Reunion and Namibia before falling 26-0 to Madagascar in their third match of the day.

That defeat set up the thrilling semifinal against South Africa who were the reigning champions.

Kenya drew first blood after making a bright start to the game and maintaining possession.

On the right wing, Elvis Olukusi produced a fine offload to Gabriel Ayimba, who sprinted past the defence to give Kenya a 5-0 lead after Rayvon Ambale missed the conversion.

Kenya outplayed the Springboks A side in both defence and attack, and just before halftime, they doubled their advantage when KCB man Olukusi again delivered a well-timed offload, this time to Strathmore Leo speedster Victor Mola on the left wing.

Mola raced past the markers to dot down and hand Kenya a 10-0 lead at the break, with Ambale again unable to convert.

South Africa had no breathing room as Kenya continued to pin them inside their own 22, maintaining dominance across the pitch and punishing the reigning champions with a third try.

Olukusi was once again at the heart of the move on the right, finding Ayimba, who dotted down for his second try of the match and the decisive score, while Dennis Ndayala missed the conversion.

Kenya are back in the Africa 7s final for the first time since 2023, having missed out on the previous two editions, both held in Mauritius, and will now be chasing a record seventh title later in the day.

With a job to do and the title they last won three years ago now within reach, Morans will be looking to overcome Madagascar in the final.

The Makis have already beaten Kenya four times in a row, so the Morans will be eager to avoid another fifth defeat at their hands.
