Historical precedent highlights the sheer scale of the challenge awaiting the Kenyan champions. Gor Mahia have lost all seven of their away matches against Egyptian opposition in CAF competitions, drawing zero and winning zero.

Across those seven fixtures, K’Ogalo have scored just two goals while conceding 20, and they have never managed more than a single goal in any individual match on Egyptian soil.
This sobering away record makes the 2-0 first-leg loss at Nyayo Stadium where Walid El Karti and Mahmoud Saber striked in the first half ,a massive setback to overcome.
Yet, a tiny glimmer of history offers Gor Mahia an unprecedented blueprint.
K’Ogalo have overturned a two-goal first-leg deficit just once in CAF competition history, doing so against Hellenic FC in the 1993 CAF Cup second round, where they lost the first leg 3-1 away before winning the return leg 2-0 at home to advance on the away-goals rule.

To repeat that feat now, the numbers required are extraordinary: a 2-0 win would level the tie on aggregate to force penalties, while a 3-1 win would see Gor Mahia advance on away goals.
Scoring two or more goals would mark their highest-scoring away performance against Egyptian opposition in club history, while a victory of any scoreline would be their first-ever away win in Egypt.
Should Gor Mahia manage to advance, they would become the first Kenyan club to overturn a two-goal first-leg deficit in the CAF Champions League era.
Standing directly in their path is a near-impenetrable home record. Pyramids have lost just once in 15 CAF Champions League home matches since making their competition debut in 2023, boasting 13 wins, one draw, and a single 2-1 defeat against AS FAR on March 21, 2026.
That means Gor Mahia must become only the second team ever to beat Pyramids at home in the CAF Champions League.
Furthermore, if Gor Mahia score three goals on Sunday, they would become the first team ever to score three or more against the Egyptian giants in a home CAF Champions League match.
Pyramids has not conceded a single goal in their official matches so far this season, having played 5 competitive matches, winning all five while scoring 9 goals and keeping 5 consecutive clean sheets.
Compounding this task are Gor Mahia’s recent defensive frailties, as the team has conceded at least two goals in each of their last four competitive matches.
This streak includes a 2-1 loss to Rayon Sports in the CECAFA Kagame Cup final, a 2-2 draw with Migori Youth in the Green Legacy Cup, a 3-1 FKF Super Cup loss to Tusker FC, and the recent 2-0 defeat to Pyramids.
With a 24-man squad having landed in the Egyptian capital, the Green Army will be desperately hoping that their charges can summon the spirit of juogi to pull off one of the greatest aggregate comebacks in African football history.
