Across 13 played matches in continental football against Egyptian clubs, K’Ogalo have recorded two wins, three draws, and eight losses overall, scoring nine goals while conceding 27.
However, Nairobi has traditionally served as a tough hunting ground for North African sides. Gor Mahia remained unbeaten there for over 50 years.
That record was highlighted by a famous 1-0 home victory over Zamalek in the 1998 CAF Cup courtesy of Steve Okumu’s winner.
There was also a memorable 4-2 win over Zamalek in the 2018-19 CAF Confederation Cup group stage, a 1-1 draw against Ismaily in the 1969 African Cup of Champions Clubs, and another 1-1 draw against Zamalek in the 1994 African Cup of Champions Clubs.
A goalless 0-0 draw against ENPPI in the 2013 CAF Confederation Cup also added to that fortress-like reputation. That was until Al Ahly finally broke that home run in the 2024-25 CAF Champions League with a 3-0 victory.

Away from home, trips to Egypt have proved far more challenging, with Gor Mahia losing all seven away fixtures in North Africa across the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup, and CAF Cup, scoring twice and conceding 20 goals.
This stark contrast makes securing a strong home result in the first leg an absolute necessity before heading north for the return encounter.
To capitalize on these advantages, Gor Mahia must execute a disciplined tactical game plan built around solid defensive organization.
Avoiding early concessions in the opening 30 minutes and keeping a clean sheet will be paramount, especially given that CAF competitions still retain the away goals rule,making any away goal for Pyramids doubly costly.

Gor Mahia are, however, navigating a tough period defensively, having conceded at least two goals in each of their last three competitive matches – a 2-1 loss to Rayon Sports in the CECAFA Kagame Cup final – a 2-2 draw against Migori Youth in the Green Legacy Cup final where they had to fight back from two goals down, and most recently – a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Tusker FC in the FKF Super Cup final.
