Kabras Sugar RFC have made changes to their squad for the Christie 7s, with playmaker Jone Kubu making a return as the Sugarmen look to finish the 2026 SportPesa National 7s Circuit on a high.
Kubu has had a limited run in this year’s circuit but his return provides Kabras with another attacking option as the team heads to the RFUEA Grounds for the final leg of the competition on September 12 and 13.
The Fiji-born playmaker missed the recently concluded Embu 7s, having also sat out the Prinsloo 7s and Dala 7s. His most recent appearance came at the Driftwood 7s in Mombasa, where Kabras lifted the title and ended KCB’s nine-match unbeaten run against them.

Kubu also featured during the Kabeberi 7s and his inclusion for Christie could prove important for a Kabras side chasing a strong finish to a campaign that has seen them remain among the leading teams throughout the circuit.
The Sugarmen will, however, head into the final leg without several regular faces. Kevin Wekesa has travelled to the United Kingdom for the Ultimate Sevens tournament, while Griffin Chao and Chrispine Otieno have been left out of the Christie squad.
Their absence has opened the door for the likes of Michael Oyoo coming into the team alongside Kubu.
Brian Mutua will captain the side, with Patrick Sabatia Lumumba expected to provide physicality in the pack. Experienced Kenya international Brian Tanga is also included, while Ronald Wangila, Jackson Siketa, Derrick Ashihundu and Michael Olukusi add experience and versatility to the squad.
Rayvon Ambale, Victor Otieno, Brian Kiptanui and Mathias Osimbo complete the playing group.
Christie 7s comes at a crucial stage of the circuit, with Kabras looking to close the season strongly after collecting titles at the Dala and Driftwood legs .
The Sugarmen will battle for knockout progression against KU Blak Blad, NYS Spades, and newly promoted Division Two champions Mean Machine .
KCB currently hold the advantage in the overall standings after winning the Embu 7s, leaving Kabras with the task of making the most of the final leg of the Sportpesa National 7s Circuit to add points.
With Kubu back in the mix, Kabras will hope the playmaker can provide the creativity needed to give their campaign a strong finish at the RFUEA Grounds.
