Gor Mahia striker Denis Omedi and Nairobi United duo Joseph Seremba and Gavin Kizito have been included in Uganda’s 28-man squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers and international friendly matches.
Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has named the three players in a squad that combines experienced campaigners with several players who have recently earned their opportunity on the international stage.
Omedi is the latest Gor Mahia player to earn recognition from the Uganda national team after joining the Kenyan champions during the recently concluded transfer window from Rwandan giants APR FC.

The striker, who has already begun life at Gor Mahia, will now turn his attention to international duty as Uganda prepare for a busy period that will see them play four matches between September and October.
His call-up gives Gor Mahia another player involved at international level, with Omedi set to link up with the Cranes ahead of their opening AFCON 2027 qualifier against Tunisia.
Joining Omedi in the squad are Nairobi United midfielder Joseph Seremba and defender Gavin Kizito.
Seremba completed his move to Nairobi United from NEC FC during the recent transfer window, while Kizito joined the newly established SportPesa League outfit from KCCA FC.
Kizito brings international experience to the squad having previously captained Uganda at Under-20 level. His inclusion provides Nairobi United with another player gaining senior international recognition following his move to the club.
Seremba, meanwhile, will be hoping to make an impression in Put’s midfield after making the switch from NEC FC.
The three players are part of a growing Ugandan contingent in the SportPesa League, although several experienced names have missed out on the latest squad.
AFC Leopards midfielder Taddeo Lwanga, who has considerable experience with the Uganda national team, was not included. Nairobi United forwards Mohammed Shaban and defender Mustafa Kizza have also been left out despite their profiles and previous experience with the Cranes.
Shaban is one of Uganda’s experienced forwards, while Kizza is a highly rated defender who has previously featured prominently for the national team. Their omission means Put has opted for a different blend of players as Uganda begin their qualification campaign.
The Cranes will start their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign away to Tunisia on September 24 before hosting Libya on September 29. The team will then travel to Côte d’Ivoire for two international friendly matches against DR Congo on October 2 and October 5.
The squad is headlined by veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango, while several players based outside Uganda, including Rogers Torach, Aziiz Kayondo, Herbert Bockhorn, Nathan Asiimwe, Baba Alhassan, Noble Okello, Allan Okello, James Bogere, Rogers Mato and Steven Mukwala, have also been included.
For Omedi, Seremba and Kizito, the call-up offers an opportunity to make their mark at senior international level after their recent moves to Kenyan clubs.
