Kenya Harlequin Queens finally got their hands on the SportPesa National 7s Circuit title after a dominant display at the Embu 7s, where they defeated Kiambaa Ladies 14-0 in the Main Cup final on Sunday.
The Quins produced a composed performance throughout the tournament and saved their best for the final, putting together a disciplined defensive display while making the most of their opportunities in attack.
Kenya Harlequin Queens made a dream start to the final when Yvette Oketch crossed the whitewash to give her side an early advantage. Maureen Murutu added the extras with a successful conversion as the Quins took a 7-0 lead.

Kiambaa Ladies responded with a determined defensive effort as they looked to keep themselves within touching distance. However, the Quins continued to apply pressure and eventually found a way through the Kiambaa defence.
Murutu combined well with Freshia Oduor, who went over for the Quins’ second try of the afternoon. Murutu once again converted to stretch the lead to 14-0.
With Kiambaa unable to find a breakthrough, the Harlequin Queens remained composed in the closing stages, defending their advantage and seeing out the contest to secure a deserved 14-0 victory.
The triumph saw Kenya Harlequin Queens claim their maiden SportPesa National 7s Circuit title of the season, capping an impressive campaign at Embu Stadium.
Kiambaa Ladies had also enjoyed a strong run to the final, including a 19-15 victory over Quins in their Pool B meeting. However, the Harlequin Queens turned the tables when it mattered most, producing a clinical performance in the Main Cup final.
The result also capped a highly competitive ladies’ competition, with the teams battling through pool matches, quarter-finals and semi-finals before the final showdown.
