The 2026 SportPesa National 7s Circuit title race is heading for a thrilling finish after KCB Rugby opened up a six-point lead at the top of the standings with just one leg left to play.

The bankers have put themselves in a strong position to lift the overall crown after collecting 98 points from the five legs played so far.

However, their closest challengers, Kabras Sugar are still within touching distance on 92 points, setting the stage for a dramatic final tournament at Christie 7s scheduled for 12th and 13th September,2026.

KCB’s campaign has been built around consistency rather than relying solely on outright tournament victories. The side picked up 22 points after being crowned the Prinsloo 7s champions before collecting 13 points at Dala. They returned to their best at Kabeberi, taking another 22 points as champions followed by 19 at Driftwood as finalists and a further 22 at Embu as the champions.

That consistency has allowed KCB to remain at the summit despite Kabras repeatedly pushing them throughout the season.

Kabras, who have also enjoyed a strong campaign, started with 19 points at Prinsloo as finalists before producing a 22-point haul at Dala as they secured the title.

Their Kabeberi outing yielded 10 points, but they bounced back strongly at Driftwood with another 22 points with the the Driftwood 7s before collecting 19 at Embu as finalists.

The two sides have undoubtedly been the standout teams on the circuit this season, with their rivalry producing some of the most entertaining moments of the campaign. KCB have now won three titles in the ongoing Sportpesa National 7s Circuit: Prinsloo 7s, Kabeberi 7s and Embu 7s while Kabras have won Dala 7s and Driftwood 7s.

KCB have managed to get the better of Kabras twice this season in the main cup finals underlining their strong form in their head-to-head meetings. However, Kabras recently struck back in emphatic fashion at Driftwood 7s, ending KCB’s impressive nine-match unbeaten run against them.

That result could prove significant when the final standings are eventually decided.

With six points separating the two sides, KCB have the advantage going into Christie. The bankers know that another strong showing could be enough to secure the overall title, while Kabras have little room for error if they are to overturn the deficit.

Kabras’ route to retaining the National 7s crown remains alive, but the mathematics leave them needing a big finish at Christie. A third-place finish would keep their hopes alive, while an early elimination could open the door for KCB to pull further away and seal the championship.

Behind the leading duo, Menengai Oilers occupy third position with 75 points, 23 points adrift of KCB. Daystar Falcons are fourth on 67 points, while Kenya Harlequin complete the top five with 64 points.

While the battle for the podium remains competitive, the attention will undoubtedly be on the top two when the circuit heads to its final stop.

KCB have done the hard work to build a six-point cushion, but Kabras have shown throughout the season that they cannot be written off. With the championship now coming down to one final tournament, every try, conversion, win and early exit could have a bearing on who walks away as the 2026 SportPesa National 7s Circuit champions.

The Christie 7s will therefore be more than just another tournament on the calendar. It will be the final chapter of a season-long battle between two of Kenya’s rugby powerhouses, with KCB seeking to protect their advantage and Kabras chasing a late comeback that could dramatically change the destination of the title.
