The summer transfer window had already proved to be a record-breaking one, and the last-minute Deadline Day deals stirred the pot.

It lived up to its reputation for dramatic late twists and big-money signings as clubs across Europe rushed to complete their squads for the new season.

The 2026 summer transfer window officially closed on September 1, with the Premier League deadline passing at 11pm UK time.

And while several of the biggest transfers of the summer had already been completed, the final hours produced a number of significant moves that could have a major impact on the 2026/27 season.

Here are some of the top big-money moves confirmed on transfer Deadline Day:

Bradley Barcola – PSG to Liverpool – £123 million

Despite the signing being confirmed on August 31, Bradley Barcola’s move to Liverpool is one of the biggest last-minute deals this summer transfer window.

Barcola was Liverpool’s primary attacking target for much of the summer, and his arrival came as the club prepared for life after Mohamed Salah.

The 23-year-old had won back-to-back Champions League titles and three Ligue 1 titles with PSG and contributed 39 goals and 35 assists in 152 appearances for the French club, according to Liverpool.

He joins the list of Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo, who both joined the club this summer.

Enzo Fernández – Chelsea to Manchester City – £125 million

The biggest Deadline Day deal was also arguably the most surprising as Manchester City completed a move for Enzo Fernández from Chelsea.

The World Cup winner Fernandez had stated his intention to leave the club this summer and his move equalled the British transfer record.

Fernández had already established himself as one of the Premier League’s most influential midfielders following his move from Benfica to Chelsea in January 2023.

The move also reunites Fernández with former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who is now in charge at Manchester City.

City’s spending on midfielders alone reportedly exceeded £300 million during the summer, with Fernández joining Elliot Anderson and teenage prospect Ayyoub Bouaddi as major additions.

Iliman Ndiaye – Everton to Manchester City – £65 million

City were at it again as they lured Senegalese international Ilman Ndiaye from Everton in the final hours of Deadline Day.

The £65 million move for Ndiaye makes him the fifth midfielder City have acquired this summer following the departures of veterans Bernardo Silva and Rodri.

His ability to operate centrally or from wider positions, gives City another dynamic attacking option at a time when the squad has undergone significant change.

Matias Fernández-Pardo – Lille to Newcastle – £51 million

Newcastle United continued their youth-focused rebuild by completing a £51 million deal for Belgian forward Matias Fernández-Pardo from Lille.

The 21-year-old is capable of playing as a centre-forward, No.10 or on the left wing, giving Newcastle considerable flexibility in attack.

His arrival comes during a summer of major change at St James’ Park, with established players including Bruno Guimarães and Sandro Tonali leaving the club.

Newcastle have instead placed significant emphasis on young talent, with Fernández-Pardo joining a new generation of players expected to form the foundation of the club’s future.

Ibrahim Mbaye – Paris Saint-Germain to Aston Villa – £47 million

Aston Villa made one of the most intriguing Deadline Day signings by bringing in 18-year-old Senegalese winger Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain for a reported £47 million.

Mbaye arrives in England with an extraordinary amount of attention already surrounding him.

He became the youngest African player to score at a men’s World Cup when he found the net for Senegal during the 2026 tournament.

Jack Grealish – Manchester City to Everton (season-long loan)

One of the most surprising Deadline Day moves saw out of favor Jack Grealish returning to Everton on loan from Manchester City.

Grealish spent the 2025/26 season at Everton and will now remain at the club for another campaign.

The move gives the England international an opportunity to continue playing regularly while returning to an environment in which he is already familiar with the manager, teammates and supporters.

Gabriel Jesus – Arsenal to Barcelona – £8.6 million

The questions surrounding Gabriel Jesus fitting into Mikel Arteta’s plans were put to bed as the Brazilian forward was sold to Barcelona.

The move brings an end to his Arsenal spell that saw him win the Premier League last season and gives Barca another attacking option.

He is the second Premier League player to join Barcelona, after former Newcastle United winger Antony Gordon left for the Camp Nou earlier in the summer.

Jesus has previously demonstrated his ability to operate as a central striker or from wider positions, making him particularly useful for a Barcelona side that values technical flexibility.

Mykhailo Mudryk – Chelsea to Tottenham (loan)

One of the more unexpected Deadline Day moves saw Mykhailo Mudryk cross London to join Tottenham on loan from Chelsea.

The Ukrainian winger will initially spend the season on loan, with an option to make the transfer permanent.

The move reunites Mudryk with Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi, who previously worked with the winger at Shakhtar Donetsk.

De Zerbi has previously spoken highly of Mudryk’s enormous potential, making Tottenham an intriguing environment for the 25-year-old to attempt to rebuild his career.

Ethan Nwaneri – Arsenal to Borussia Dortmund (loan)

Arsenal opted to send one of their brightest young talents abroad, with Ethan Nwaneri joining Borussia Dortmund on loan.

The teenager has already gained valuable first-team experience in England but now moves to Germany in search of more regular senior football.

Dortmund have developed a reputation for giving young players opportunities, making the Bundesliga club a logical destination for Nwaneri.

Pape Matar Sarr – Tottenham to Juventus (loan with obligation to buy)

Tottenham also sanctioned a notable late departure, sending Pape Matar Sarr to Juventus on loan with an obligation to buy.

The Senegal midfielder had been an important part of Tottenham’s squad but now faces a new challenge in Serie A.

His athleticism, defensive work and ability to cover ground make him well suited to the demands of Italian football.

For Juventus, the deal provides another midfield option while giving Sarr an opportunity to experience one of Europe’s most tactical leagues.
