The SportPesa 7s 2026 returned after a two-week break for its third leg, the Kabeberi 7s, and Day One of the action on Saturday at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi certainly delivered.
Following the opening rounds: the Prinsloo 7s in Nakuru and the Dala 7s in Kisumu, this 37th edition of the Kabeberi 7s provided teams with an opportunity to build on the momentum from the previous two tournaments and rectify the shortcomings that had hampered their progress.
In Group D, dubbed the “Group of Death,” Kabras Sugar and their perennial rivals KCB headlined a fiercely contested day as they punched their tickets to the Main Cup quarterfinals.
Menengai Oilers, Kenya Harlequins, Strathmore Leos, Mwamba RFC, Daystar Falcons, and Kenya University Black Blad also secured their places in the last eight.

Before meeting in the final clash of the day, KCB had registered victories in their opening matches against Nakuru RFC and MUST. Kabras, meanwhile, enjoyed a similarly impressive start, overcoming the same opponents to maintain their unbeaten run.
Jone Kubu managed to give Kabras the lead in the third minute after he overcame the Bankers’ defence of Nygel Amaitsa, Ooro and Samuel Asati to go between the sticks for a converted try, handing them a 7-0 advantage.
Just before halftime, KCB managed to reduce the deficit after Vincent Onyala offloaded to George Ooro on the left wing.
Ooro shrugged off the defence of Ashihundu and Kubu before dotting the ball down in the whitewash, although Kabras went into the break leading 7-5.
Ooro was the man who handed the Bankers the winning try in the second half with two minutes remaining, surging through the defence before Austin Sikutwa converted the unconverted try.
KCB will now be aiming to get the better of the Dala 7s champions after falling short of reaching the finals, while Kabras, on the other hand, have featured in all the finals so far and will be chasing their third finals appearance.
