Record Prinsloo 7s champions Mwamba RFC have unveiled a balanced 13-man squad for this weekend’s Prinsloo 7s as they seek to make a strong return to the top tier of the SportPesa National Sevens Circuit.
The opening leg of the 2026 circuit gets underway today at the Nakuru Athletic Club, where Kulabu will be hoping to draw on their rich history in the competition as they target a positive start to the new season.
Head coach Paul Murunga has entrusted experienced former Kenya 7s stars Brian Mutugi and Tony Omondi to lead the team in what promises to be a demanding opening weekend.
The duo headline a squad that combines experience with youthful energy as Mwamba look to challenge for a title they know better than most clubs in the country.

Mwamba remain the most successful club in the history of the Prinsloo 7s, having dominated the tournament during their golden era by winning back-to-back titles in 2007 and 2008 before repeating the feat in 2010 and 2011.
Their most recent triumph came in 2019, and they will be eager to add another chapter to that remarkable legacy.
Having finished sixth inlast year’s edition, Murunga has also named Amon Bwambok, Shaquel Bosire, Raynold Anduvate, Eugene Ojiambo, Zoelick Buyuni, Byron Webo, Aldrine Andanje, Bruce Shiemi, Wycliffe Ochieng, Dennis Ndayala and Paul Tatti in the travelling squad.
One of the players expected to excite fans is speedster Shaquel Bosire, whose pace could prove decisive in the wide-open spaces of sevens rugby.
Mwamba have been handed a tough assignment after being drawn in Pool A alongside Kenya Cup champions Kabras Sugar, former circuit champions Kenya Harlequins, and Embu RFC.
Their campaign begins with a clash against Kabras Sugar at 8:20 a.m., before taking on Kenya Harlequins at 11:20 a.m. Kulabu will complete their pool matches against Embu RFC at 2:40 p.m.

Pool A is widely regarded as one of the most competitive groups at this year’s tournament. Kabras Sugar will be looking to end their wait for a National Sevens Circuit title, while Kenya Harlequins are aiming to bounce back after an underwhelming campaign despite winning the overall circuit in 2024.
For Mwamba, the tournament also represents another important step following their return to the top flight. A strong performance in Nakuru would provide the perfect platform for the remainder of the six-leg circuit, which continues with the Dala 7s in Kisumu next weekend.
With valuable circuit points up for grabs from the opening whistle, Kulabu will be determined to remind everyone why they remain the most decorated side in Prinsloo 7s history.
Armed with an experienced squad and guided by Paul Murunga, Mwamba will be aiming to turn their proud history into fresh success as the 2026 SportPesa 7s gets underway in Nakuru.
