Fresh from an outstanding campaign with Shabana FC, defender Wycliffe Omondi has set ambitious targets after sealing his move to Nairobi United, with the highly-rated centre-back declaring that he wants to help the club win both the SportPesa League title and the FKF Cup next season.
Omondi joins the Patrick Aussems-coached outfit after establishing himself as one of the standout defenders in the 2025/26 SportPesa League campaign.
His commanding displays at the heart of Shabana’s defence earned him a place in the SportPesa League Team of the Season, while he narrowly missed out on the Defender of the Season award.

Despite operating from the back, Omondi also finished among the league’s highest-scoring defenders, underlining his importance at both ends of the pitch.
His performances attracted interest from several clubs, but Nairobi United ultimately won the race for his signature as they continue strengthening their squad following an impressive debut top-flight season that also saw them compete on the continental stage.
Speaking after completing the transfer, Omondi admitted he was delighted to begin a new chapter with a club he believes is heading in the right direction.
“It feels so great to join Nairobi United because they are now a big club. They have also played CAF matches, and that experience of competing in big games outside the country makes them an attractive team to join,” he said.
The defender also explained that Nairobi United’s long-term vision played a major role in convincing him to make the switch from the Glamour Boys.
“The reason I joined the club is because it is a good team. I see it as a place where my future as a footballer can prosper and I believe I can achieve great things here.”
Omondi is not short of confidence heading into the new campaign. Rather than settling for individual success, the former Shabana star wants to add silverware to his growing reputation.
“I want us to win both the league and the FKF Cup next season. As a defender, I also hope we keep more clean sheets than any other club.”
After enjoying one of the best seasons of his career, Omondi is determined to raise his standards even further.
“Being among the best defenders of last season is a great feeling, but my aim is to become the best defender in the league this coming season.”
The experienced defender also had a message for Nairobi United fans , urging them to rally behind the team as they chase success on multiple fronts.
“To the Nairobi United fans, I urge you to come out in large numbers next season because we are ready to achieve great things together. We want to win trophies and give you many reasons to celebrate.”
With Patrick Aussems assembling a competitive squad ahead of the new campaign, Omondi’s arrival adds quality, leadership and experience to Nairobi United’s backline.
If he can replicate the form that made him one of the league’s standout defenders last season, the club’s ambitions of challenging for major honours could become a realistic target.
His individual goal of becoming the league’s best defender, coupled with his desire to deliver a league and FKF Cup double, reflects the winning mentality Nairobi United will hope drives them throughout the season.
