Sportpesa League champions Gor Mahia have named a formidable 29 player squad for their two-week pre-season camp in Kigali, Rwanda starting with the upcoming Rayon Day international friendly and the subsequent 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup.

Administrative manager Ronald Ngala Ngโ€™ongo steps in to steer the contingent as the official Head of Delegation.

On the touchline, all eyes will be on the club’s Head coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor with the Ghanaian flanked by the backroom staff that secured the 22nd title for Gor Mahia including Assistant Coach Bismark Kobi-Mensah and Video Analyst Joshua Kofi Boafo.

In a significant cultural shift for the club, long-serving veterans Philemon Otieno and Ernest Wendo, who recently hung up their boots after legendary playing spells with Kโ€™Ogalo, have transitioned into the backroom staff.

Otieno takes over the role of Team Manager to oversee logistics, while Wendo slots in as a Technical Assistant.

Coach Akonnor will use this tour to blend six of the club’s newest acquisitions into the first-team with Enock Machaka and Lesley Otieno both raided from Nairobi United to strengthen the midfield.

In the final third, Gor Mahia secured the services of Paul Okoth, who arrives from Ulinzi Stars boasting an impressive 18-goal haul from last campaign. He is joined by Hansel Ochieng’, roped in from APS Bomet.

The goalkeeping department has also undergone a major face-lift. High-profile shot-stopper Humphrey Katasi makes the controversial switch from arch-rivals AFC Leopards, while Michael Onyango joins from Equity FC to provide backup completing the transfer business.

This revamped unit faces a quick litmus test on Saturday, July 18, when they match up against regional rivals Rayon Sports for the Rayon Day festivities at the Kigali Pelรฉ Stadium.

Following the exhibition fixture, the squad will immediately transition into tournament mode for the CECAFA Kagame Cup, which kicks off on July 24.

With group-stage fixtures lined up against APR of Rwanda, Garde Republican from Djibouti and Uganda’s Vipers SC, Gor Mahia will be hunting for its first regional crown in 41 years.
