Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has promised that the Seleção will emerge stronger from their painful FIFA World Cup Round of 16 exit, insisting the disappointing defeat to Norway marks the beginning of a new chapter rather than the end of the road.
The five-time world champions suffered a stunning 2-1 defeat to Norway, with Erling Haaland scoring twice to send the Scandinavian side into the quarter-finals.
The result condemned Brazil to their earliest World Cup elimination since 1990 and sparked widespread disappointment among supporters who had hoped Ancelotti would guide the nation to a record-extending sixth world title.
Speaking after the match, the experienced Italian admitted the defeat was difficult to accept but maintained that his side had shown enough throughout the tournament to suggest they are moving in the right direction.
“Obviously everyone is deeply disappointed considering what happened,” Ancelotti said during his post-match press conference. “I don’t think we had a spectacular World Cup, but we had a good one. I think we even deserved to win the game today.”
Brazil created enough opportunities to take control of the contest but were left to regret their wastefulness in front of goal. Their biggest chance arrived in the opening stages when Matheus Cunha won a penalty after being brought down inside the area following a VAR review.
However, Bruno Guimarães failed to capitalize from the spot as Norway goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland guessed correctly to produce a crucial save. Endrick also squandered a golden one-on-one opportunity after being released by Vinicius Junior, while several other promising attacks failed to produce the clinical finish Brazil desperately needed.

Despite the heartbreaking exit, Ancelotti refused to dwell solely on the disappointment, urging his players to channel the setback into future success.
“You have to digest a defeat like this,” the former Real Madrid manager said. “This has been a new adventure. Now we need to keep earning our places, keep trying to improve.”
Having taken charge of Brazil just over a year ago, Ancelotti stressed that building a successful national team is a long-term project. His current contract runs until 2030, meaning he is expected to lead the Seleção into the next FIFA World Cup.
The 67-year-old believes the current squad possesses the quality to challenge for major honours and remains convinced Brazil can become world champions again if they continue developing.
“I don’t think this is the end,” he said. “I think this is the start of a new cycle. With the squad we have, Brazil could have competed right until the end of this World Cup, even considering what happened today.”
Rather than allowing the defeat to define his tenure, Ancelotti revealed the coaching staff will analyse the campaign carefully before working to strengthen the team ahead of future competitions.
“What we can do, and what we are going to do, is keep working hard for the national team, keep trying to improve and find new ideas,” he added.
The Italian, one of the most decorated managers in football history, also drew on his vast experience, reminding reporters that setbacks are an unavoidable part of the game regardless of previous achievements.
“I think we have done a good job, but this is football and this is sport. You have to deal with the sadness and the taste of defeat,” Ancelotti concluded. “I am very much used to this, and we will handle it. We will use it as fuel going forward.”
