Kenya’s president William Ruto has led the bigwigs with warm-hearted messages hailing Gor Mahia for clinching the SportPesa League 2025/26 title.
Gor were crowned champions on Sunday, May 31, at the Nyayo National Stadium as they regained the title for a record-extending 22nd time, although they ended the season with a narrow 1-0 loss to league newcomers Nairobi United.
K’Ogalo finished the league with 69 points, sitting five points above their bitter rivals AFC Leopards, who came second on 64 points.

Taking to his social media platforms, President Ruto saluted the record-breaking champions, along with the squad and coaching staff, for the impressive job they have done all season.
“Congratulations Gor Mahia Football Club on winning the 2025/2026 SportPesa League title and securing a historic 22nd league championship,” part of his statement read.
“This remarkable achievement is a testament to the hard work, discipline, and resilience that have defined your campaign throughout the season. I commend the players, technical bench, management, and the club’s loyal supporters whose unwavering commitment have once again propelled K’Ogalo to the summit of Kenyan football.”

He did not hold back from praising Gor as a solid club that inspires and draws huge crowds.

President Ruto also wished Gor Mahia all the best when they return to the CAF Champions League next season, as he hoped they would raise the Kenyan flag high.

In addition to lifting the trophy on Sunday, which was presented in the presence of several dignitaries including SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri and club patron Eliud Owalo, who was accompanied by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s son, Gor Mahia will also pocket a whopping KSh15 million in prize money for winning the championship.
