The world football governing body FIFA, through president Gianni Infantino, has congratulated Kenya’s champions Gor Mahia for clinching the SportPesa League 2025/26 title.

In a letter dated May 28 and addressed to the Football Kenya Federation president from FIFA’s headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, President Infantino hailed the record champions for the effort they have put in throughout the season.

“Congratulations to Gor Mahia FC. By means of this letter, I am pleased to congratulate the recently crowned champions of Kenya, Gor Mahia FC! Their constant efforts and results throughout the season have paid off, resulting in this important title. Congratulations to each and every member of the team and of the club for this great achievement,” part of the letter signed by Infantino read.

FIFA is looking forward to more collaboration with FKF and the rise of local football.

“While thanking you and your Federation for your continuous support, work, and dedication for the development of football in your country, I look forward, dear President, to seeing you again soon,” he added.

The message was welcomed by FKF president Hussein Mohammed.

“On behalf of Football Kenya Federation I acknowledge with gratitude FIFA’s congratulatory message to Gor Mahia FC for winning the SportPesa League. This gesture reflects FIFA’s recognition of the progress being made in Kenyan football…We thank FIFA for its support and encouragement, and we reaffirm our commitment to the growth and integrity of the game in Kenya,” he wrote on his socials.

Gor were crowned champions on Sunday, May 24, with two games to spare, following their arch-rivals AFC Leopards who were in the title race when they fell 2-1 to APS Bomet in Kericho.

Leading the pack with 65 points after a goalless draw with Mara Sugar in their penultimate fixture, K’Ogalo are set for the coronation on Sunday, May 31, when they will take on Nairobi United in the final SportPesa League encounter.

To reclaim the title in a record-extending 22nd championship – like no other team ever in Kenyan football – this season under Charles Akonnor, Gor have been nothing short of sensational, with 20 wins, nine draws, and just four losses in the 33 matches they have played so far.

“A proud moment for us. We are honoured to receive a congratulatory message from FIFA President Gianni Infantino on winning the SportPesa League title. We deeply appreciate the recognition,” Gor Mahia received FIFA’s congratulations with open arms.
