Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been officially named the 2025/26 EA SPORTS Premier League Player of the Season.
The announcement, made by the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, crowns an extraordinary individual campaign for the Portuguese playmaker, who has been the undisputed driving force behind United’s resurgent season.
Under the guidance of Michael Carrick, Fernandes spearheaded the club’s turnaround to secure a top-three finish and a coveted return to the UEFA Champions League.

Bruno Fernandes named Premier League Player of the Season
Fernandes claimed the prestigious award following a combined vote from football fans, club captains, and a panel of expert analysts.
He managed to beat an elite shortlist that included Arsenal’s title-chasing trio of Declan Rice, Gabriel, and David Raya, as well as Manchester City’ Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo, Brentford’s Igor Thiago, and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White.
The 31-year-old midfielder has operated at a world-class level throughout the season, dominating the league’s creative metrics. Fernandes enters the final matchday having racked up 20 assists in the top flight, matching the legendary single-season Premier League record held jointly by Thierry Henry (2002/03) and Kevin De Bruyne (2019/20).
In addition to his 20 assists, the United skipper netted eight goals, totaling 28 direct goal involvements.
His underlying numbers paint an even more dominant picture of his influence: Fernandes created a staggering 132 scoring chances over the course of the campaign—distancing himself by more than 40 chances ahead of his nearest playmaking rival, Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai.
Fernandes can claim sole ownership of the all-time Premier League single-season assist record on Sunday, when Manchester United travel to face Brighton & Hove Albion in the final round of fixtures.
This Premier League accolade completes a remarkable clean sweep of individual awards for Fernandes this May.
The midfielder has completely dominated the end-of-season awards capturing four major honors by winning the – EA SPORTS Premier League Player of the Season alongside the FWA Footballer of the Year, making him the first Manchester United player to claim the Football Writers’ Association award since Wayne Rooney in 2010.
Furthermore, his incredible influence was recognized closely at home, where he secured a club-record fifth Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year fan award as well as the Manchester United Players’ Player of the Year.
Fernandes becomes the seventh player in Manchester United history to win the official Premier League Player of the Season award, joining the elite company of former icons Peter Schmeichel, Dwight Yorke, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nemanja Vidić – the last United player to win it in 2011, and Wayne Rooney.
