The 2025/26 La Liga season will most likely be decided this weekend as leaders Barcelona are just one point away from the title ahead of a heavyweight encounter lined up in round 35.
Barca will host Real Madrid in the El Clasico on Sunday, needing just a point to be crowned La Liga champions for a second successive season. The leaders have 88 points, compared to Madrid’s 77.
A 2-1 away victory at Osasuna last weekend was Barcelona’s 29th win of the season, continuing their fine form that has seen them lose just four games throughout the campaign.
At the opposite end of the table there is also a nail biting fight to avoid relegation as only three points separate 12th place Valencia and 18th place Alaves. There is no more room for error with only four games left to play this season.

Elche’s three-game winning streak in La Liga was halted by Celta Vigo in a 3-1 defeat last weekend. This leaves them in 14th place with 38 points, just two away from the relegation zone.
Alaves are also coming off a 4-2 defeat to Athletic Bilbao but have the chance to at least temporarily climb out of the relegation zone with a win here. They remain in 18th place with 36 points.

Both teams have had frustrating seasons, managing just nine wins so far from 34 matches. This sets this up to be a potentially explosive affair as both teams fight to maintain their La Liga status next season.
Alaves were 3-1 winners when these sides met in October last year and are keen to complete the double over their opponents.

Atletico Madrid vs Celta Vigo – Saturday, 7:30PM – Wanda Metropolitano
Following their midweek exit from the Champions League semifinals, Atletico resume their focus to the league as they seek to secure a spot in next season’s competition. Diego Simeone’s side is after a third straight league win after back-to-back victories against Bilbao and Valencia.
Atleti are in fourth place with 63 points, five less than Villarreal in fourth. Meanwhile, Celta Vigo are in sixth with 47 points.
Celta are confident ahead of the game after beating Elche 3-1 in their last outing to secure their top six place on the log. The last two matches between these two sides have resulted in identical 1-1 draws.
However, Atletico are favorites to come out on top having not lost to Celta Vigo since a 2-0 victory in September 2018.

Real Sociedad vs Betis – Saturday, 10PM – San Sebastián
The hosts have not managed to win a single game since they were crowned Copa del Rey champions – without victory in their last four La Liga matches. Their most recent outing ended in a 1-0 loss to Sevilla.
Their form has seen them drop into ninth place on the standings with 43 points, ten less than their opponents Betis, who are out to extend their unbeaten league run.
Betis are unbeaten in their last five league games, coming off a morale-boosting 3-0 win against Oviedo ahead of this clash. They were also 3-1 winners in the reverse fixture last September, confident they can avoid defeat here.
We can expect goals in this match just as this fixture is known to produce but a draw could be the most likely outcome here.

Mallorca vs Villarreal – Sunday, 3PM – Estadi Mallorca Son Moix
Mallorca will be confident they can keep out Villarreal when the two sides lock horns on Sunday afternoon. The hosts have only lost one of their last five matches at home and need a win to boost their survival chances.
Mallorca are in 15th place with 38 points, just two more than the relegation spot. While they face a third-place Villarreal side who have guaranteed their spot in next season’s Champions League.
The yellow submarine are unbeaten in their last four league games and are coming off a 5-1 demolition of Levante, while Mallorca edged Girona 1-0 in their last outing.
Villarreal were 2-1 winners the last time these sides met and they have won all but one of their last five head-to-head matches.

Barca are looking to make it six consecutive wins in all competitions when they host eternal rivals Real Madrid on Sunday. Hansi Flick’s side need just one point to secure a 29th La Liga title.
The hosts have 88 points, 11 more than Madrid who must win if they are to keep their slender and almost unrealistic title hopes alive.
Madrid beat Espanyol 2-0 last week courtesy of a Vinicius Junior double to make it three games without defeat. Barca on the other hand were 2-1 winners away at Osasuna to set this up to be a potentially explosive El Clasico with the title on the line.
Alvaro Arbeloa’s side have only beaten Barcelona once in their last five attempts, a 2-1 La Liga win in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. Barca have won the remaining four to assert dominance over their rivals in recent history.
One thing we can be guaranteed of in this fixture is goals, with the last five head-to-head matches producing a staggering 27 goals.
