Shumah, Osoro lift historic Zambian topflight title with Power Dynamos

Harambee Stars duo Moses Shumah and Emmanuel Osoro have added a significant chapter to their careers after helping Power Dynamos clinch the 2025/26 Zambia Super League title in commanding fashion in their debut season.

The Kitwe-based outfit sealed the crown with four matches to spare following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Konkola Blades in Chililabombwe, a result that not only confirmed their status as champions but also marked a historic milestone for the club.

Power Dynamos successfully defended their league title for the first time in their history while also securing their ninth league crown, further cementing their place among Zambia’s football elite.

Shumah and Osoro joined the Zambian outfit at the start of the current season from SportPesa League side Kakamega Homeboyz and National Super League side FC Talanta respectively.

Despite the absence of leading marksman Shumah, who missed his second consecutive match due to illness, Dynamos still displayed the attacking intent and tactical discipline that has defined their campaign.

Shumah, who has been in scintillating form this season, currently tops the scoring charts with 21 league goals and remains a central figure in the club’s success story.

Osoro was named among the substitutes, highlighting the depth within the squad as head coach Osward Mutapa continues to rotate his options effectively in the business end of the season.

Dynamos drew first blood in the 17th minute when winger Chifundo Mphasi capitalized on a defensive lapse, dispossessing his marker before driving forward and slotting past goalkeeper David Mumba with composure.

However, Konkola Blades responded with intent and were rewarded in the 40th minute. Kelly Kayembe rose highest to meet a well-delivered corner, powering a header past the keeper to restore parity and shift momentum briefly in favour of the hosts.

That momentum swing proved short-lived as Power Dynamos quickly regained control. Samuel Ayodeji restored the visitors’ lead just minutes later, heading home from a Mphasi corner to ensure they carried a 2-1 advantage into the halftime break.

In the second half, Mutapa’s charges showcased their tactical maturity, slowing down the tempo and maintaining a compact defensive shape. Strategic substitutions, including the introduction of Salulani Phiri, Linos Makwaza Jr, and Ronel Manyanga, injected fresh legs and helped the team manage the game until the final whistle.

Speaking after the match, Mutapa praised his squad’s consistency and mental strength, noting that sealing the title early allows them to shift focus to the ABSA Cup.

His sentiments reflected a team that has combined attacking flair with defensive solidity throughout the season.

For Shumah, attention will now turn to recovery as he eyes a strong finish to an already outstanding campaign.

With four matches remaining, the former Kakamega Homeboyz striker is within touching distance of breaking the league’s single-season scoring record of 26 goals, a feat that would cap off an extraordinary season.
