- Mara Sugar edge Posta Rangers 1-0 to return to winning ways in the SportPesa League.
- The clash took place on Monday, April 6, at the Awendo Green Stadium.
- Drona Openda bagged the lone goal from the penalty spot, marking their first victory against Posta Rangers since they earned promotion.
Mara Sugar snapped their four match winless run as they returned to winning ways with a narrow 1-0 victory against Posta Rangers on Monday Afternoon.
Drona Openda converted from the penalty spot in the second half of a tightly contested Round 27 of the SportPesa League staged at the Awendo Green Stadium.
That was the seventh victory of the season for the Sugar Millers from the 27 matches they have played so far, and now they sit in 11th place on the table with 34 points.
They arre holding that spot, boasting just those points since ninth and tenth-placed Tusker are on 37 points.

On the other hand, this marked back-to-back losses for the Posta Rangers side, who came into this clash also hoping to bounce back after a defeat to Kakamega Homeboyz.
They now remain in 12th place with 31 points, and they will be looking to stage another comeback in their next outing.
Additionally, this fixture hasn’t seen a winner for a while, for the first time since Mara got promoted back in 2024, they have managed to edge out the Mailmen after three consecutive 1-1 draws in their prior meetings.
This match was mostly dominated by Mara Sugar as they created chances from minute one, but they just couldn’t find the back of the net.
In the first half, they had about three opportunities where Robinson Musungu came close to opening the scoring, rising highest to meet Jimmy Owili’s inviting delivery, but his header drifted narrowly wide.
Moments later, Harun Thomas tested goalkeeper Bixente Otieno after a slick move involving Aineah Ndete and Owidi, only for the shot to be parried away. Posta got a few chances too but could not get them right, setting up a second half that wasn’t fruitful either.

The lack of a goal, and the winner to be precise, came in the 70th minute when Mara were awarded a penalty following a handball by Maxwell Odada, who struggled to deal with Nyakeya’s teasing chip delivery. Openda stepped up and slotted home the winner.
For Posta, they will aim to bounce back when they take on Nairobi United in their next fixture, the Round of 16 of the FKF Cup on April 10.
Meanwhile, Mara will wait a few more days until a clash against Kariobangi Sharks next for the SportPesa League fixture.
