Michael Oduor

Rising Kenyan boxer Michael Oduor has set his sights on conquering the African boxing scene after being crowned the new National Super Welterweight champion following a dominant victory over Stanley Museve.

The bout, which took place in the SportPesa Boxing event held at the Edge Convention Centre on Friday, ended in dramatic fashion as Oduor handed Museve his third career loss with a technical knockout in the fifth round, just 59 seconds into the round.

Heading into the fight, Oduor carried an impressive unbeaten record of three wins, zero losses and zero draws, and he looked determined to maintain that perfect run.

From the opening bell, Oduor displayed confidence, composure and tactical awareness, controlling the pace of the fight and applying pressure on Museve.

His sharp punches and aggressive approach proved too much for his opponent, eventually forcing the referee to stop the contest in the fifth round.

Speaking after the victory, Oduor revealed that he had already sensed weakness in his opponent during the face-off and decided to capitalize on it.

“Yesterday during the face off I felt like he was not confident and with that as a businessman who means business, I had to take that advantage. To Maurice I have made a mark I want to go for the big title in Africa,” said Oduor.

The statement underlined ambition and hunger of the Nairobi-born boxer as he eyes greater achievements beyond the national title.

The 23-year-old now shifts his focus to continental glory and more titles, as he aims to compete for major African titles and continue building his reputation as one of Kenya’s promising boxing talents.

Despite the defeat, Museve showed sportsmanship and resilience, revealing that he had stepped into the ring while carrying an injury sustained just a week before the fight.

According to Museve, the injury affected his preparation, but he still chose to honor the bout and give his best in the ring.

“I had an injury one week before the bout but still we had to show up to complete this mission but sadly it did not go our way, congratulations to him but I’m grateful,” said Museve.

The result now improves Oduor’s professional record to four wins, zero losses and zero draws, with three of those victories coming by knockout, highlighting his growing power and finishing ability in the super welterweight division.

On the other hand, Museve now stands at two wins, one by knockout and three losses with no draws.

Oduor’s victory not only secures him the national title but also positions him as a serious contender on the African stage. With an unbeaten record and increasing confidence, the new champion is determined to keep climbing the ranks and represent Kenya at higher levels of boxing competition.

If his current momentum continues, Oduor could soon become a household name in African boxing, as he pursues bigger titles and tougher opponents in the near future.
