  • On Saturday, April 4, Sharks created most of the clear-cut chances but ended up taking just a point at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
  • Muluya believes they need to improve their finishing, led by David Majak, who missed a golden opportunity in the Gor match.

Kariobangi Sharks head coach William Muluya believes his side still has more work to do when it comes to scoring, after ruing missed opportunities when they held Gor Mahia to a goalless draw on Saturday at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani.

Sharks wasted most of their clear-cut chances against the record champions, especially in the first half, to grab one point away from home.

That result brought them to 26 points, dangerously close to the relegation zone, sitting 14th in the SportPesa League table.

Speaking to Azam TV after the match, Muluya stated that in their last two encounters, they have been creating openings which they have failed to convert against AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia.

He said it’s something that needs a quick fix, as the relegation scrap gets tighter, with his team sitting just one point above 16th-placed APS Bomet.

“We have to find the solution to our clinical finishing in the final third and get goals. Because when you look at this match in the first half compared to our last game against AFC Leopards, we created chances – even today,” he stated.

Muluya believes they could have wrapped up the game in the first half, especially after a golden opportunity in the 11th minute when Zabalon Kutela unleashed a shot that saw Gor’s custodian Gad Mathews slip the ball off his glove.

It then went through to David Majak, who lacked a cleaner way to knock it into the net, as his weak off boot effort just missed the target.

“We had a chance through Majak, and I think it’s up to him to be more responsible at the front and creative too. I believe if we had bagged that one goal against Gor Mahia, we would have won. Because playing against Gor, a side that supplies most of the players to the national team and is very strong – I think we have work to do, and we’ll keep grinding on that,” he noted.

Muluya banks on Majak to score five goals before season ends

However, despite Majak being on a dry spell since joining the club back in January this year, Muluya still trusts the South Sudanese international has got it.

He believes before the season ends, the striker will have at least five goals to his name.

“For Majak, as a coach, I’ll keep giving him time and minutes to boost his confidence. I believe there will come a day soon when he will score, and he’ll be out of this curse. I’m confident that before this season ends, he will net at least five goals.”

Kariobangi Sharks will continue fighting for their survival in the league. After playing the FKF Cup round of 16 against Tusker FC, they will then take on Mara Sugar following the cup competition, and later face Murang’a SEAL, who are also on the roster.
