  • City Football Group is surging ahead in the race for Paul Ochuoga with Chelsea, Girona, Brighton, and Brentford also in pursuit.
  • Ochuoga was named the SportPesa League January 2026 Player of the Month.

Manchester City’s ownership group, City Football Group, are leading the charge to snap up highly-rated Gor Mahia defender Paul Ochuoga, with Chelsea and Girona also in the mix to secure his services, according to TEAMtalk.

The 21-year-old full-back has caught the eye of a growing list of European scouts, with this season seeing him emerge as one of the standout figures at Gor Mahia.

He has become the go-to choice for Charles Akonnor’s side, helping them in their push to reclaim the SportPesa League title.

This season alone, Ochuoga has bagged two goals, and back in January was named SportPesa League Player of the Month after racking up one goal and three assists.

His defensive solidity has been a huge boost for the record champions this term, as they currently sit top of the table with 57 points from 26 matches as they chasing their 22nd league crown.

Now, sources have confirmed that Man City’s City Football Group (CFG) are at the front of the queue for his signature and are actively plotting a way to bring him to Europe this summer.

CFG’s multi-club model offers a clear route for rising talent, and internal chats have already taken place over the best possible landing spot for Ochuoga.

Additionally, according to TEAMtalk, Spanish outfit Girona and Italian side Palermo are both being considered as potential first stops, giving him a platform to adjust to European football.

However, CFG are not alone in their admiration, Ochuoga’s electric displays have also caught the attention of Brighton and Brentford, both of whom boast sharp, well-established scouting networks across Africa.

Sources indicate that Chelsea’s BlueCo ownership group, along with the Red Bull football network, have also been keeping tabs on Ochuoga’s progress, underlining the growing battle for his signature.

Despite signing a new contract with Gor Mahia earlier this year, K’Ogalo are now bracing for offers and are expected to cash in on their rising star.

There is a belief that Ochuoga could be fast-tracked into one of Europe’s top-flight leagues as early as next season.

BlueCo have been eager to bring in talent from around the world that fits their strategy, and Ochuoga certainly ticks those boxes.

However, it looks like City Football Group are well ahead in the race, as they might be ready to seal the move sooner rather than later.

Paul Ochuoga first broke into Gor Mahia’s senior team back in 2024 after being promoted from the youth ranks, and he’s been in the spotlight ever since thanks to his sharp pressing, clever runs forward, and fearless defending at the back.

He’s also earned caps with the national U23 side.
