- Dennis Muthini came off the bench to score the winning goal against Gor Mahia on Sunday at Nyayo Stadium.
BB Bread player Denis Muthini is brimming with confidence that his side can go all the way to clinch the 25/26 FKF Cup.
This comes after the giant slayers knocked two of Kenya’s most successful heavyweights, AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia, out of the competition.
BB Bread, a regional league outfit, has recently been one of the hottest topics in Kenyan football, and AFC Leopards were the first casualties to fall to the underdogs’ sharp teeth, being eliminated via penalties in the Round of 64.

And as fate would have it, the Kayole-based side was then handed another SportPesa League powerhouse, Gor Mahia, in the Round of 32.
To confirm the magic of the Cup and prove they are no ordinary underdogs, BB Bread delivered on Sunday, March 8, when they scored a late winner through Muthini, who had come off the bench, to sail into the last 16 of the competition.

A beautifully executed attack down the left saw Samuel Oluoch get on the end of a volleyed cross.
He drove forward and slid a low ball into the box, where Muthini connected, shifted it onto his left foot, and slotted it into the net, handing his side what proved to be the winner against Akonnor’s charges.

In an interview with the SportPesa Blog after the match, the speedy winger stated that he was confident whenever he was given a chance he would play well, but he did not expect to score the winning goal.
“I feel good, I feel fantastic, all thanks to God for the win today. I was confident I was going to play some good football, but the scoring anticipation was not really there. I just told God if I was to score today, I would, and He did it,” Muthini said.
The 22-year-old revealed the tactical change that ensured they punished Gor Mahia, stating that they were lying low to hit them on the counter-attack, adding that Gor is a very good team.
“When I got into the game, we had a tactical shift. When it was time to attack, we went all in, and when it was time to defend, we did the same. The results have come through,” he explained.
“We give them respect(Gor Mahia); they are a good team. And on our side, we respect our coaches because they analyzed the tactical switches, and it paid off. Football has its own outcomes. I came in late and I scored.”

Muthini dedicated his goal to the entire team while revealing that the FKF Nairobi East County Branch team is very confident of reaching the finals and wary of no opponent.
“This is not my goal alone; I dedicate it to my team. And I thank BB for giving me this chance to represent them, so this is our general win,” he stated.
“It’s one step at a time. We believe in ourselves, and whoever comes our way, we know we can perform. We have coaches who know what they are doing, and I hope we will go all the way into the finals,” he reiterated.

BB Bread is among only three teams from the fifth-tier league in this stage, alongside Mfalme FC and Chebaiywa Lions.
They will be joined by Kuta Collections FC (the only non-league side remaining). 3K FC is the sole National Super League side that qualified for this round.
They will be joined by SportPesa League teams like Nairobi United, as well as heavyweights Tusker FC, KCB FC, Shabana FC, Kenya Police FC, Ulinzi Stars, Bandari FC, Kariobangi Sharks, Kakamega Homeboyz, Murang’a SEAL, and Posta Rangers.
