Minnows from the Nairobi East Regional League side BB Bread delivered a stunning upset against SportPesa League side AFC Leopards, eliminating them from the FKF Cup 2026 in the Round of 64 played on Sunday at the Police Sacco stadium.

BB Bread capitalized on set-pieces to secure their victory, dealing a blow to Ingwe who were hoping for a double this season.

The opener came through an unfortunate own goal by Fredrick Alushula who diverted a well-delivered corner into his own net, handing BB Bread an early advantage.

Five minutes before the half-hour mark, another corner proved decisive. Joseph Tindo rose highest to head home as he doubled the lead for Ajastine Okoba’s side, BB Bread going into the break firmly in control.

Despite AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani making two changes – James Kinyanjui replacing Alushula and Musa Oundo coming on for Brian Wanyama to inject creativity into midfield – the visitors still trailed at halftime.

The second half was fiercely contested, and Ingwe pulled one back through Kennedy Owino, who’s driven cross from inside the box proved too strong for keeper Ezekiel Owade to handle, parrying it into his own net.

Kinyanjui then leveled the match just five minutes before the final whistle, driving through the center and finishing calmly to send the game into penalties.

The match needed a winner and to the post match penalties it went.

Johnson Wakachala converted the first spot-kick for BB, before Kayci Odhiambo replied for Ingwe.

Joel Gedi then rattled the woodwork, keeping Ingwe’s hopes alive, but Owino’s effort was saved, leaving the shootout finely balanced.

Olivier Iryamukuru found the net for BB, matched by Boniface Munyendo for Ingwe, followed by successful kicks from Dominic Waoithaka of BB and Ronald Bebeto for AFC Leopards.

In the final moments, after Tindo scored for BB, Ingwe needed to respond to force sudden death, but Samuel Semo blasted his effort over the bar sending BB Bread FC through to the Round of 32 and making Ingwe the first top-flight side eliminated from this year’s FKF Cup.
