  • The NaiBois were later reduced to ten men in the second half after their custodian, Bernard Jairo, was sent off.

Bernard Jairo made a costly blunder by handling the ball outside the box as his ten-man side, Nairobi United, were held to a 1-1 SportPesa League home draw by KCB FC on Wednesday at Ulinzi Sports Complex.

In a dramatic second half where both teams matched each other’s intensity, the game took a decisive twist just after the hour mark.

Nairobi United were reduced to ten men when their custodian Jairo handled the ball outside his area under pressure from Kahiro, who was closing in quickly.

Although Kahiro failed to find the net from the resulting chance, Jairo was shown a straight red card for the rash error. The Bankers, however, failed to capitalize on the ensuing free kick.

The Round 23 fixture started at a slow tempo as both teams searched for their rhythm. However, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock as early as the ninth minute.

Boniface Omondi got on the end of a clever layoff from Francis Kahiro and unleashed a low shot that beat Bernard Jairo at his near post, giving the Bankers an early advantage.

The game dipped in intensity for the next twenty minutes, with Nairobi United missing a couple of opportunities in the 16th minute.

But the momentum shifted around the half-hour mark when the hosts were awarded a penalty. Enock Machaka was fouled inside the box by KCB goalkeeper Elvis Osoro, and Benson Omalla stepped up to confidently restore parity.

Despite being down to ten men, Nairobi United held their nerve in the final 30 minutes after Jairo’s dismissal.

KCB pushed forward and created chances, but could not find a way through, as both sides ultimately settled for a share of the spoils.

The SportPesa League now takes a break for the FKF Cup Round of 32. KCB will go into the hiatus sitting eighth with 33 points, while Nairobi United remain tenth with 30 points.
