How much will Nairobi United receive from CAF?
Nairobi United entered the match with a crucial 2-0 advantage from the first leg held in Nairobi. However, the Tunisian powerhouse matched that lead in stoppage time, forcing the tie to a penalty shootout with a 2-2 aggregate score.
In the post-match penalties, the Kenyan side triumphed with a dramatic 7-6 victory, writing a new chapter in Kenyan football history in their maiden continental campaign.
By successfully navigating the preliminary rounds, Naibois have unlocked significant financial rewards from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Qualification to the Group Stage assures the club of a minimum payout of USD $400,000 (Ksh 51.6M), a figure that CAF allocates to all teams that finish third or fourth in their respective groups.
The club had already secured a grant of USD $50,000 (Ksh 6.4 million) from CAF for their participation in the preliminary rounds, bringing their total guaranteed earnings to at least 58 million.
Nairobi United could potentially see an increase in earnings if they successfully make it out of the group stage, with the amount escalating to USD $550,000 (Ksh 71.0 Million), USD $750,000 (Ksh 96.9 Million), USD $1 Million (Ksh 129.2 Million), and USD $2 Million (Ksh 258.4 Million) respectively, should they qualify for the quarters, semi-finals, finish as Runners-up, or win the tournament.
Naiirobi United will now wait to find out their opponents as the group stage draw shall be conducted on 3 November.
