Collins Sichenje set to face Zak Vyner as Charlton Athletic host Wrexham in Championship

Harambee Stars defender Collins Sichenje is set for a compelling encounter this Saturday when Charlton Athletic welcome Wrexham AFC to The Valley in an English Championship fixture that carries significant weight at both ends of the table.

The match could see two Kenyan-connected defenders come up against each other, with Sichenje lining up for Charlton while Zak Vyner pushes for a place in Wrexham’s squad.

Both players secured moves during the recently concluded mid-season transfer window, strengthening their respective sides as the campaign heads into its decisive stretch.

Sichenje joined Charlton from Serbian top-tier side FK Vojvodina and has quickly begun settling into life in England’s second tier.

The centre-back made his full debut in a 1-1 draw against Southampton, putting in a composed performance at the heart of defence that saw him being voted the Player Of The Match.

He followed that up with another appearance against West Bromwich Albion, coming on in the 35th minute in a game that also ended 1-1. His growing involvement under head coach Nathan Jones underlines the trust already being placed in the Harambee Stars regular.

Vyner, who joined Wrexham from Bristol City, has had to be patient. The defender arrived with an injury and is yet to make a full debut for the Welsh outfit.

However, he made his long-awaited return in Wrexham’s 2-1 victory over Portsmouth, coming on two minutes before full time as Phil Parkinson’s side secured maximum points. With his fitness improving, Vyner will be eager to push for more minutes and possibly a starting berth.

While Sichenje has already cemented his place as a regular in the Harambee Stars setup, Vyner is still awaiting his senior debut for Kenya despite earning his maiden call-up.

In his first call up the defender was forced off the camp with paper issues ruling him out of the Harambee Stars set up at the time.

The defender however is one of the players coach Benni McCarthy could turn to having made as strong run of performances in the Championship with his boyhood club Bristol City before making a switch to Hollywood backed Wrexham AFC.

Heading into Saturday’s clash, Wrexham occupy sixth position and are firmly in the playoff conversation. A run of 13 points from their last six matches has strengthened belief that they can challenge for promotion in their first season back in the second tier.

However, defensive consistency remains an area for improvement, with only one clean sheet recorded in their last nine league matches.

Charlton, on the other hand, are focused on preserving their Championship status. Sitting six points clear of the relegation zone with 12 matches remaining, the Addicks have shown resilience in recent weeks.

They have collected nine points from their last six outings, though goals have been hard to come by, managing just four in their last five games.

Team news suggests Sichenje is in contention to start at centre-back, while Vyner could also feature if deemed fit enough. With both sides fighting for crucial objectives; survival for Charlton and promotion for Wrexham this encounter promises to be fiercely contested.

The match kicks off at 6PM(Kenyan Time).
