Kakamega Homeboyz move into third with a heartfelt victory over Sofapaka

Kakamega Homeboyz kept their maiden league title dreams alive with a 2-0 victory over a struggling Sofapaka at the Bukhungu Stadium on Friday afternoon in the early kickoff match.

The match was played under a somber cloud as the club prepared to bid a final farewell to defender Silas Abungana, who was tragically murdered recently.

The clinical performance served as a fitting tribute to their fallen teammate, with the victory coming just hours before Abungana’s body was scheduled to be moved from the morgue ahead of his burial on Saturday.

The result was put beyond doubt in the 80th minute through a moment of pure individual brilliance. Shafik Batambuze stepped up to a free-kick in a dangerous position and curled a beautiful strike into the net to double the lead and ensure all three points remained in Kakamega.
