Kakamega Homeboyz beat AFC Leopards
  • Kakamega Homeboyz beat AFC Leopards 0-1 to kick off 2026 on a high in the SportPesa League title race.
  • The rescheduled match was played on Sunday, January 4, at Nyayo National Stadium.
  • Henry Omollo’s solo strike ended Ingwe’s six-match unbeaten streak while also halting Homeboyz’s four-match winless run.

A one-minute first-half goal by Henry Omollo was enough for Kakamega Homeboyz to defeat AFC Leopards 0–1 and condemn them to their first SportPesa League 25/26 loss in six matches on Sunday evening at the Nyayo National Stadium.

AFC Leopards came into the fixture sitting joint-top of the table with 24 points and they needed at least a victory to preserve that impressive streak.

However, their Western Kenya rivals Kakamega Homeboyz had different intentions.

Determined to end a four-match winless run, Homeboyz delivered a disciplined performance that not only halted Ingwe’s momentum but also propelled them to the summit of the table.

The win saw Patrick Odhiambo’s side move level on 24 points with AFC Leopards but leapfrog them into first place thanks to a superior goal difference, pushing Ingwe down to second.

Three teams are now tied at the top of the SportPesa Premier League table, with third-placed Tusker FC also on 24 points.

Gor Mahia, who still have pending results, sit fourth with 23 points, while Sofapaka’s 3–1 home defeat to Nairobi United leaves them fifth, also on 23 points.

A defensive lapse just a minute after kickoff proved decisive.

Kakamega Homeboyz built a promising attack down the right wing, but Ingwe gave the ball away cheaply just outside their own box.

Mousa Oundo’s attempted clearance fell to Glen Masava, who controlled it before unleashing a powerful drive.

Goalkeeper Humphrey Katasi could only parry the shot, and the rebound fell kindly for Omollo to finish and give his side the lead.

Homeboyz crafted several opportunities in the first period, including efforts from in-form Rodgers Ouma, but they could not convert to extend their advantage.

Leopards, meanwhile, created few meaningful chances, their attacking play lacking sharpness, and trailed at the break.

The second half saw Ingwe push hard for an equalizer, but fortune deserted them.

A late goal-line clearance by goalkeeper Masaka denied Kelly Madada, and they ultimately fell to a loss – their second of the season. For Kakamega Homeboyz, it was a valuable three points on the road.
